Bottle 0.5 L.
Brown body with reddish hues; medium, creamy, tan head, mostly lasting with a nice lacing.
Malty aroma (roasted) with notes of licorice, chocolate and maybe nuts.
Moderate-to-heavy sweet flavour with some light bitter note; bitter-sweet licorice note in the finish.
Medium body with an oily texture; soft carbonation.
Nice beer.

 

A: Massively tall beige compact head fills the glass. After a while the head dissipates into decent lacings and dark brown clear liquid.

S: Rather mild, besides the licorice and dark bread; almost nothing else is going on. Some suttle notes of pears and apples. The oat brings a dryness.

T: Again rich in licorice, but also soy sauce and rich sweetness - it's a bit like syrup. Dark bread.

M: Medium body and rather flat carbonation. Aftertaste holds sweet licorice.

O: A very average Milk Stout, with a licorice overdose.

 

APPEARANCE: This is a very dark brown beer with a reasonable head.

SMELL: This beer smells like oatmeal and nothing else.

TASTE: This beer tastes like oatmeal is sweet and nothing else.

MOUTH FEEL: This beer has a nice balance and a good carbonation.

OVERALL: Reasonable drinkable and a nice sweet slightly bitter aftertaste.

A clear brown brew with an off-white (unexpectedly pale), settles quickly leaving no lacing and has small curtains.

Smelling very much of sweet licorice and some fruits, pears and apples.

The taste also is dominated by sweet licorice, some honey and syrup, candi sugar, coffee and soy sauce.

Litlle carbonation, soft and sticky texture, a medium body, undry.

A different twist with the dominant sweet sour anise presence, liquid licorice candy.

From a 50 cl bottle, best before 08.04.14. Pours amber brown with a foam that fades quickly. Toffee and chocolate on the nose, quite clean. Quite a sweet attack, a bit too sweet for me, a bit syrupy. Nice chocolatey flavours, with good acidity and some bitterness. A bit syrupy at the finish. Lacks a bit of substance, but has a character which reminds one of Danish rye bread - not entirely inappropriate!

Sweeter and more refreshing than most stouts, and probably more than a stout ought to be. The sweet introduction is, however, followed by a coffee-like bitterness, which is more like what stouts are used to be. Unfortunately, the adding of syrup seems to have given it a slightly alcoholic taste, which does not do it any good.

As a stout it is a bit tame. But as a beer it's definately acceptable, and even a bit more than that. Also, it's an interesting experiment in adding unusual ingredients to beer, such as rye, oat and nettle.

Pours a dar ruby color with an off white head that fades quickly leaving small amounts of lacing around the glass.

Smell is syrupy sweet.

Taste starts out with some faint dark chocolate notes right up front but very quickly changes to a maple syrup like taste that seems to last all the way through until the finish which a kind of sweet coffee flavor.

Not really more kind of stout, but it's a different style so maybe others out there will like it better.

Poured from a 50cl bottle, best before 7 April 2010. Pours a deep dark amber with a nice light brown head that leaves some nice lacing. Smells a bit of mustiness, licorice, and oats-just like the name implies really. A bit more smokey tasting then I usually like, but nice and malty with a hint of oats and licorice and a bit sweet too. Nicely rounded and full bodied with a slightly dry finish-7% ABV. I'd definitely recommend this to others and drink it again if given the opportunity.
