Collaboration with Cloudwater Brew Co.

BrewDog vs Cloudwater is a 6.8% Vermont-style India Pale Ale, hopped with Mosaic in the whirlpool only. Without any big-hitting additions of hops in the boil, we carried the flavour by heavily dry-hopping the brew with Citra and Mosaic. Topping out at around 35IBU, we also used oats in the recipe to deliver the trademark smooth mouthfeel – and made it truly authentic by propagating a one-off culture of Vermont yeast, specifically for the brew.

Malts: Pale Ale Propino, torrefied wheat and oats

Hops: Mosaic and Citra

Yeast: Vermont Ale (WLP4000)

Pours a hazy, golden amber coloration with a medium, frothy head and huge chunks on final pour. Smells of biscuity malt and chalky hops, with some faint citrus/tropical notes. Taste follows the nose, with some sweet'ish biscuity malt and chalky hops standing out, as well as lighter, citrus/tropical notes of grapefruit, tangerine, mango and pineapple, with a somewhat acidic tanginess reminiscent of multivitamin tablets. Finishes with a light bitterness and some biscuity malt and chalky hops lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

Well, if this really is Brewdog Vs Cloudwater then it looks like Brewdog won the battle, because this is decidedly average and unworthy of the name Cloudwater. Quite chalky, acidic hops, not a trace of vibrant, juicy notes, while also coming across a bit too yeasty. Not sure how old this is though, the date code is difficult to decipher.

Had it in a Moscow bar. Scottish ipa sounds suspicious. But suddenly it felt like a Perfect NEIPA. Smooth like silk. No hint of 6.8. Strong feeling of caramelized pineapple and a bit of lime. Hoppy dry finish. Nothing else needed.

Crusty white over glowing straw yellow. 4
Peachy, apricot cobbler, grapefruit oil, and lemon curd. 4.25
Porridge, lemon verbena, dried apricot, yellow Swedish fish, underripe mango and a slight pineapple finish. 4.25
Soft, round, medium. 4

Shifty nose: soft fruit and citrus both. Lemon over orchard in the taste, and maybe a bit crisper than I’d like. Ultimately too sharp and lemony. 4

660ml bottle from Brewdog BotteDog, Glasgow (£6.00):
Excellent stuff, this one is a great beer that grabs you straight away thanks to the opening fresh hops & juicy flavours. It's a more subtly bitter taste than expected but it's great & features plenty of pineapple & tropical fruits/citrus flavours backing it up. The balance of the beer was good with the hints of sweetness at the end too. Easily up there with the best from Brewdog has produced & one I'll definitely try to have again before it's gone forever.
