330ml bottle from DogHouse, Glasgow (£9.64):
Very strong stuff here, this one is a huge beer that initially opened with a lot of chocolate & coffee but was quickly followed by a tonne of alcohol alongside some wood & oak flavours; there was also quite a strong whiskey taste with peat malts & further alcohol showing towards the end. It was a difficult beer to drink, particularly with the wood & smoked flavours nearer the end & the fact that the beer didn't have the best balance, something that I felt held this one back & prevented me from enjoying it as much as I have other imperial stout I've tried recently. It was quite a complex offering though with some rich touches & darker fruits towards the end but I felt the alcohol dominated too much & I doubt it's one that I'd have again.

A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 12th March 2022. Poured into a snifter.
Appearance: Black in colour with a half finger mocha head that dissipated quickly except for parts that clung around the glass and sparse spotty lacing.
Aroma: Chocolate and roasty coffee with hints of oak, charcoal, whisky and smoky peat.
Taste: Sweet, smoke, peaty whisky, plum and raisins with only hints of the roasty chocolate and coffee that I got in the aroma.
Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with light carbonation.
Overall: This was not at all what I was expecting. The roasty chocolate and coffee that was so evident in the aroma was completely overpowered by the strong barrel character of peat and whisky such that in a way, it didn’t feel like an Imperial Stout. That’s not to say that it wasn’t good, but it would definitely help if you enjoy peat like I do. The result seemed like an easy to drink peated whisky minus the kick.
