The BrewDog Barrel-Aged Series showcases one-off beers, brewed and blended with heart and soul. Aging in cask imparts a range of flavors derived from the casks' previous inhabitants. Each release is unique and only brewed once.
Layer Cake has been aged in Jamaican Rum barrels. Notes of chocolate, coffee and rum dance with hints of oak, caramel, toffee and vanilla. Prepare for a night of decadence with this moderately sweet, boozy and balanced stout.
Layer Cake - Dessert is served.

So here is my completely biased rating and opinion of this particular beer: Brewdog Layer Cake Barrel Aged Stout. I bought one (yes, only one), earlier this year, and I've been on a mission to find more ever since. Bought one, and only one, expecting it to be entirely too sweet, but no idea what I was thinking!! Little did I know, this Stout would provide one of the most pleasurable drinking experiences of current times! Okay, here's the biased part: This Layer Cake tasted exactly like the rum balls my beautiful Mother used to make. Not only that, but Vera's Bakery (West Side Market, CLE) used to have the most delectable rum balls, as well - although not nearly as good as my Mom's, but they were definitely delicious! Two of my all time favorites, and neither are available any longer, so I have only the Layer Cake. HAD only the Layer Cake, but alas, I was not fortuitous enough to purchase extra. There are some potential sources at Platform Brewing, but I will forever more be in search of the Layer Cake. (Daniel Craig is a big bonus. :-D)

16 ounce can, BrewDog USA brewed, canned on 04/15/20. Served in a BrewDog pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch and a half tan head that stuck around a while. Good amount of lacing, too. I like the aroma, the brew smells like rum, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, burnt/charred malt and caramel. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but with the addition of some oak, boozy and dark bready flavors. This definitely has a boozy kick! Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's slick and smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good sweet and boozy brew, definitely worth picking up if you get the chance!
