Post modern classic reimagined.
The UK’s favourite craft beer – the beer that started it all – gets ramped up to 8.2% for a relentlessly hoppy onslaught that balances a light malt backbone with a citrus-forward and super pithy delivery. Expect plenty of bitterness from the heavy-handed hopping, and a clear golden appearance that invites you in with aromas of grapefruit and zesty fruits.
Double Punk, Double the fun.

This may be the BEST imperial ipa I have ever had. (I drink a lot of craft beer) The look, feel and taste is spot on. An IPAs lovers beer!!!!

Brewdog Brewing Co. "Double Punk"
12 fl. oz. can; production code is partially missing.
$2.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: I wish I had a regular "Punk" to compare side by side with this but I don't. It's poured a hazy golden body beneath a massive head of rocky white foam. The aroma is herbal, piney, grassy, earthy, malty, lightly citrusy with orange and a touch of grapefruit, some passionfruit, and a bit of peppery spice. There's definitely something else there but I cannot recall what it is. On to the taste then... I think that everything found in the aroma remains. I'm also getting a little bit of lychee, and some soft gooseberry. I don't want to give the impression that this is a bright and bold beer, however, as it's not. Yes, everything is there, but it's not sharp and clear. The malt is fairly basic, sweetish, and just a touch caramelish. Combined with the hops it has a kind of orange marmalade with pine and herbs thing going on. It's not as bitter as I thought it would be yet it finishes fairly dry. No doubt the alcohol is helping with that. It finishes earthy, peppery, and piney as that soft orange marmalade fades away. In the mouth it's medium leaning towards medium-full in body and gently crisp then smooth. I'm about halfway through it at this point and I still have a solid surface covering and one massive torn and spotty sheet of lace about the glass. It's been a long time since I've had a Punk IPA so it's hard to recall but I'm kind of thinking that this isn't that much better. Different, of course, but not that much better. For whatever reason double IPAs aren't quite as brightly hoppy as standard IPAs are, and that's certainly the case here. The alcohol showing as much as it does at just 8.5% is a little bit of an issue as well, but I do expect some to balance the maltiness so there's that.

APPEARANCE: Cloudy golden, decent bone-white head and light lacing.
NOSE: Tropical fruit, citrus.
TASTE: Thick body with big bitter hop resins - a big, corrosive hop assault here. Chewy malts underneath. Forget the fruity, easy IPAs, this is a blast of classic American Imperial IPA as it should be.
