didnt know these guys had another label, this is the first i have heard of overworks, cool. this beer is weird as heck a brownish red sour but not a flanders type, its real acidic, bretty too though, and it has hazelnuts and cherries in it, also aged in rye barrels. they call it a scottish sour, not sure ive heard of that before, but we were all pretty intrigued by this one. super dense pour, cloudy too, and without hardly any head after a minute, it looks admittedly sloppy in the glass, but the aroma is fascinating. super sour, like paint thinner intense, but with sweet and sour cherry notes, a whole heap of raisin, and a sort of obvious tootsie roll candy vibe, like is there supposed to be chocolate in this too? the alcohol seems insanely high for what its listed at, the rye adds some spice with the dark malts and the oak is sweet, but this is boozy to me, even fusel. the flavor is strong and intense, i get quite a lot from the hazelnuts now, distinctly, and they are cool with all this malt, does seem like a strong scottish ale in terms of grain build now, but the sourness is bracing and its weird against the nuttiness, not sure it works. the rye is cool, the oak is enormous, and the brett funk adds additional complexity. i wish this was a little better refined, because these things are so weird and cool together and i think there is a ton of potential, but the beer presents as sloppy and its a turn off, way too sour and seemingly alcoholic, heavy and close to flat. neat use of the hazelnut though, and i love the malt profile with the nuts, the rye, the cherries, and the brett all together. my first under this label, cool enough to look for more, but they could improve the overall quality of this pretty easily. aftertaste of tootsie rolls stays with me semi permanently...
