A full-on showcase of grain whisky barrel character, fused with the classic profile of Russian imperial stouts. A blend of two giant stouts, each loaded with flavors of intense espresso, bitter of chocolate, molasses, and roasted malt, each compounded with notes of smooth ganache, toasted oak, hints of vanilla and spice, balanced against an aggressive bitter edge. Full-bodied, bittersweet, and complex.

330 ml bottle, batch 180051B, best before 22/01/28 stamped on the label, BrewDog Scotland brewed. Had this bottle hidden away for a while, assuming it was bottled in 2018 based on the batch number. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with not quite an inch tan head that stuck around a while. There's also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like dark fruit, smoke, dark chocolate, oak, whisky, roasted malt, coffee and molasses. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there's also some dark bread and burnt/charred malt flavors noticeable too. Not sure what kind of barrels this was aged in, but it seems like an Islay whisky which kinda reminds me of a Laphroaig whisky but I'm probably wrong. The whisky character isn't strong at this point but still there for sure. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's coating and a bit rich with a moderate amount of carbonation. Have to say this is still drinking surprisingly good, wish I had more bottles left!

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This interesting imperial pours a
dark brownish black with dark tea highlights and a moderate head of
khaki foam that settles to a thick ring, thin dusty layer, and sports some
nice light lacing. Nose of dark bakers chocolate, dark coffee notes, char,
roast, soy hints, smoke, oak, and spicy whiskey. Flavors follow the nose
with exceptions showing notes of black strap molasses, char, roast, smoke,
whiskey, heavy oak, dark bakers cocoa, dark coffee (very bitter), and
dark fruits that get muddled in the char and roast dashed with soy.
Mouth feel is full, coating, rich, abrasive roast, and finishing with a
bitter malt note that is moderately dry.
Overall, a monster that could use some of the edge tamed to be
more approachable--BUT, still a solid finishing brew for Christmas.....
which lasts for another week till New Years! Woo Hoo!
Cheers
