Appearance. Pours a hazy orange-amber with half a finger of white head.

Smell. Very herby hops with a little citrus and some caramel malts.

Taste. Pepper with earthy, bitter herbs and some floral and citrusy hops. Not very good.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with medium+ carbonation.

Overall. Way too herby tasting for me. Funny concept and story beind it though.

Thanks to Rutager for sharing this one.

A: Slight off-white head over cloudy amber liquid.

S: Honey malt with a strange smell reminiscent of Scotch barley soup believe it or not.

T: This beer tastes like poison. It is extremely bitter and I personally believe that the herbal ingredients ruined the taste. Flavours of pepper, pure caffeine and echinacea extract are combined with floral hops. Anyone who says they don't mind the taste must be purely trying to justify what they paid for this very expensive beer.

M: Medium viscosity and carbonation.

O: This beer was undrinkable and the only reason why it wasn't a drain pour was because it was shared at the house of a generous BAer.

Then again, this beer wasn't made to win any taste awards. It seems to me as if it is purely a joke beer that was created as a vehicle to add herbal aphrodisiacs to an IPA.

We had this beer at tasting two weeks ago at my cousin Peters place. Great beers and great fun.

This beer was poured in my Essen Christmasbeerfestivalglass (what a word for wordfeud!)

This is not a bad IPA but i had better untiil now. In this beer should be viagra, chocolate and ginseng.

The beers does not look spectacular in the glass. Light smell of pineapple and citrus. Bitter taste, a bit too bitter for me although i have to say that the bitterness fades away after the first few sips.

Wednesday 28th of December 2011 I had a brilliant tasting session at my uncle Peter place . This was the beer my niece Eveline brought. So thanks for that. And yes every one, I have a beautiful family in which good beer is highly appreciated.

A - A beer with amber looks and on top a white head. If one looks good enough there is some orange haze in it as well.

S - A good hoppy pine smell, grass and citrus. All like a fresh cut Alp meadow (not that I ever smelled one, but I can imagine it would be like this).

T - Again fresh cut Alp grass, citrus and pine all very nice and welcome flavors.

M - A soft carbonation and a bitter after taste make this a pleasant IPA to drink. The aftertaste is real long lasting.

O - A very nice IPA and I really think it would have been nice on the wedding of Kate&William as well. It's a bloody shame that all beer was excluded from their wedding. Well done Brewdog, keep the good beer coming, because it is welcome in my house.

thanks to rutager

pours a bright vivid orange with lots of haze, as the yeast and sediment dumps into it, it darkens. big huge fluffy head, lingers and is thick.

citrus bomb all over. tons of sweet ripe citrus with a touch of floral.

the herbal aspect os very up front and dominant. the citrus and bittering hops linger behind this. not quite balanced but then again this isn't your average IPA. light malty backbone. a little spicy.

smooth with a mild to moderate carbonation.

this is good, fun, love the story behind it. tell my wife to watch out.

Extremely fruity nose. Whether pineapple, blood orange, or, especially, mango, smells flatter nostrils, so far as to think of fruity candy without becoming sickening fact. Real festival fruity nose. The entry into the mouth is but the hops are present and it propagates well in the mouth and gives the drink a good bitterness.

By cons, Viagra - the so-called present - seems conspicuously absent except by micro-extracts. Moreover, it is perhaps no worse, either in health or taste, because beer is a very good IPA.

Drinked at Delirium Village.

Bottle shared by Sammy, 330ml into a snifter. Civic day tasting. Bottle indicates to "enjoy your day off BIG WILLY style." Will do.

Pours a golden brown, with an offwhite head. Light retention and lacing. Nose has some orange, grapefruit along with some greener and more herbal notes. Taste has some bitter citrus rind, with more herbal and tea-like flavours. Medium feel, and generous (read: impeding) bitterness. Moderately drinkable, a fairly average IPA with some interesting herbal qualities nonetheless.

A - Amber orange beer with a small white head that left minimal stick on the sides and a solid ring.

S - Smells like some sort of weird herbal garbage. Pale malts and some hops, but this herbal/vegetable stuff is pretty gross.

T - Taste is not much of an improvement. Sweet malty sugar backbone with some slightly bitter hops and something along the lines of slightly rotted vegetable matter. Yuck.

M - Medium bodied, moderate carbonation.

O - This beer is a fun gimmick, but is also pretty gross. No way I could drink an entire bottle of this myself. If I had to drink this to get it up, I'd probably just stop having sex.

The label of the bottle is great; I almost laughed my lip off. "Celebrate your extra day off, Big Willy Style'", and then "Caution: May contain sarkasm". The boys at BrewDog must have had a blast when they brew and shiped a case to the Royal English wedding.

A: Pour is hazy deep amber with a small white head that leaves almost no lace.

S: The most obvious smell is the citric; red grapefruit. Then there are lots of herbs/spices. Grassy. Sweetness to the caramell malt.

T: Herby/spicy. Lots of citric notes; lemon sezt and red grapefruit. Some faint piney notes as well. Sweet caramell malt, slightly roasted.

M: Medium body and moderate carbonaton. Oily smooth. Aftertaste lingers for some time and holds mostly bitterness, but also some sweetness.

O: I wonder if "Big Willy" got use of the herbal aphrodisiac before his wedding night... An interesting beer, with a little too much herbs in it, for taste.

One-third a pint served in a Teku glass at the BrewDog bar in Edinburgh. From notes. Reviewed 28 May 2011.

A: Nice finger of head with decent retention. Clear and pretty -- orangey, reddish, brownish. Dark honey?

S: Herbs, spice, meat rub. Dill? Fennel? Shockingly good.

T: It tastes almost exactly like leftover Chinese food -- soy sauce, cooked pork, salt and pepper. The aftertaste is herbal, bitter, and more orthodox. This is a weird damn IPA, but it's a great concept.

M: Lightly drying; hoppily bitter.

O: High marks for smell, humour, concept and execution. Recommended, if just for fun.

Notes: A limited-edition beer containing herbal viagra to mark the forthcoming royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29th. According to the specially commissioned label, the Royal Virility Performance contains herbal viagra, chocolate, Goat Weed and "a healthy dose of sarcasm." The beer is a 7.5% ABV India Pale Ale and has been brewed at BrewDog’s brewery in Fraserburgh.

This beer poured out as a copper colored liquid the head was nice and white. The lacing looks great with every sip. The aroma is hoppy and herbal with some malts in the faint distance. The taste of the beer is medicinal and herbal but hoppy enough to keep it well balanced. The mouthfeel is very drinkable and just under medium bodied. Overall I found this to be a very good tasting IPA, I thought the herbal notes made this beer unique in it's own way. Unfortunately I don't get an erection from this but all in all it's still pretty good!

Had this one during the 'We Want The Funk!' tasting that was graciously hosted by beermeX2! Big thanks goes out to beermeX2 for sharing this one with the group! Served from bottle into a Mikkeller flute. Poured yellow-orange with a half finger off-white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, mango, grapefruit, citrus, and grapefruit hop. The flavor was of sweet malt, fruit, mango, grapefruit, citrus hop, and grapefruit hop. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. It really felt out of place during this tasting as each of the other 44 brews sampled were all of the sour variety. However this was one was still pronounced enough to be able to pick up on all the flavors present. Really nicely done American IPA here. Very heavy tropical fruit aspect going on here that kept people coming back for more... This bottle was also used as a foreground to take pics of the people who passed out early at the tasting (it did last until 4AM afterall). Definitely worth trying if you get the opportunity!
