330 ml shared bottle. Deep golden to orange colour, moderate white head. Moderate aroma, some dusty and oaky notes, hints of dark dried fruits / raisins. Fruity sweet flavour, raisins again, oaky notes. Unusual, but not bad.

 

 

 

 

 

 

A somewhat atypical review...

Pours like a lager, and then, for a bottle with a 17-04-13 - I repeat 17-04-13 - bottled date does it smell and taste mainly of Brett?

Hmm, maybe reverse Brett than can jump in before the beer is even bottled to present with nice funky balanced tart tastes ??

Go figure, I can't... :-)

This is certainly not what Brewdog intended this beer to be. Brett, Brett, and more Brett.

 

Hazy pale golden colour with no head. Okay.

Interesting aroma of light oak, mild bourbon and some pineapple.

A light tartness suggests Brett Clausenii along with the pineapple. Nice light butterscotch. Interesting bourbon and moderate hop bitterness. Interesting combination.

Medium light body with moderately-high carbonation. Nice.

A solid beer. The combination of fruit, oak and bitterness without malt is odd but works.

 

This poured out as a hazy golden color. The head was foamy and white. The retention and lacing are pretty strong on this brew. The smell of the beer gives off some sour oak aromas with a hint of malt in there too. The taste has a subtle tartness to it that is then followed by the malt sweetness and bitter hops. It's earthy and fresh, it's more complex than the regular "7.7". It's got some good transitions in the flavors. The mouthfeel is sharp and crisp, really quite nice upfront that fades into a creamy finish. Overall it's a really interesting take on a traditional lager. I wasn't sure what to expect but I'm glad I tried it.

 

Pours a hazy honey hue which leaves a two finger creamy head that stays and a rim of lacing,the smell is a touch of funk,stale tobacco and herbal earthy hops,the mouthfeel is medium bodied and with medium carbonation and has tastes of honeydew,the slightest touch of oak,noble herbal hops,a drop of honey and finished with a grassy dryness and a whiskey boozy warmth right at the end and overall its alright but the ageing only shows a few subtle differences and i probably would not revisit in a rush but id still buy this one before the normal one cheers.

Pours amber with a large, lasting head.
Nose shows honey, vanilla oak notes, buttery toffee, spicy hops and alcohol.
A bit weird.
Some oak transfers through as a flavour, along with the spicy notes, alcohol and soft toffee. The alcohol seems a little harsh and whisky-like.
Carbonation is too high.

Bright but slightly cloudy golden amber colour with a thin, patchy lacing in lieu of a head. There is some build up of lacing around the sides though and the colour itself is a nice one.

Some sourness straight off the bat with a mix of lager malts and some vanilla. The smell is very sweet and I can detect some butterscotch and a touch of oak. The smell of this one is great with a touch of grain and alcohol right at the end.

Good sweet notes to begin with mixing a combination of vanilla, butterscotch and a touch of spice and grain. There is some pepper and a little citrus with hints of orange and apricot and a very nice, alcohol laced sweet finish.

Sweet with a good mix of fruits, there is some grain and alcohol present but it is subdued and carbonation is mild to low with a medium body. The finish is a wet some and the sweetness lingers for some time after the drink is swallowed.

Sweet tasting beer with a great mix of vanilla and butterscotch that leaves you wanting more. There is some grain and touches of alcohol that although enjoyable could have done with being slightly weaker.

Picked this up at my favorite beer store in Belgium, Dranken Geers. Clear golden yellow pour with one finger head that quickly fades with nice lacing. Tons of oak in the nose with hints of caramel and a touch of sourness. The oak is the star in the taste as well. Biscuits and caramel malt along with cider vinegar and some subtle vanilla notes round it out. The mouthfeel is slightly fizzy with some sour, champagne-like character as well. The tangy dry finish reminds me of cider, which I'm not a big fan of, and hurts the drink ability. Love how the barrel aging comes through, but a bit too funky for a lager.

Poured a light amber colour... white head poured pretty big and foamy then faded to decent frothy layer which was maintained throughout by a good steady stream of carbonation... some light patchy lacing...

Aroma - Some caramel mixed with biscuity malts, light oaky wood, peppery and grassy hops, light candy sugar, earthy, bread, light almond nuttiness, some spicy tropical ripe fruits (orange, light peach)..

Taste - Peppery and grassy hop bitterness, quite sharp oaky hints, biscuit malts, juicy fruits (pears, orange), some soapy traces, very light toasted bread, quite floral, light sweetness, faint chalkiness, some graininess...

Feel - Crisp, sharp and dry... Light body... A pretty quaffable pilsener

Overall - A decent enough brew. I really like standard 77 lager but don't really see any need for it to be barrel aged... worth a try though

 

The brew is clouded amber, has an off-white head that leaves little lacing but has good curtains.

Smelling butter, wood and ripe apples. A sour tone.

Starting with sweet bread, toffee, apple vinegar, cask tones.

Little carbonation, very small bubbles, medium body, a dry sour finish.

Still don't really resonate with barrel aged beer, except when it is a RIS or similar. Or the spontaneous gems from Belgium.
