On the heals of a Heady Topper this is probably the best beer I've had out of my home state of Montana. Smooth, thick, juicy and creamy. Huge mango and orange notes. Great full mouthfeel and at 104 ibu's extremely balanced. Highly recommend stopping by if ever in the area to sample.

what a colossal and delicious big ipa, maybe the best hoppy beer i have had from montana. its hazy and orange, looks very east coast, with a tall white head on it in a snifter glass from the new asian place across the street from the brewery. it smells fabulous, oily and dank, almost spicy from all the hops, a touch sweet to balance, and really vegetal and fresh. this is the kind of double ipa i like to drink, texturally interesting from yeast and hops, and long in the flavor. this one evolves from a lemon peel thing through a pretty intense pine zone, finally to a sweet west coast type oily finish that works with the bigger malt body really well. i like that i can feel and taste yeast in this, its pretty raw for how refined it is, the best of both worlds, i can get into that. not knowing the abv of this though, i would have guessed it to be much higher than it is. it has more than just a warming electric feel, its got fusel alcohol essence, and definitely packs a punch to it. great beer on the whole though, i think carters has emerged from the group as the leader in ingenuity and quality in the burgeoning local beer scene here in billings. this is on par with some of the best out there.

edit: this was equally impressive years later in another visit to the brewery. its never been the hoppy stuff thats turned me on most from these guys, but they are doing everything so well! really killer ipa here!

Chub picked up at the Billings brewpub... Enjoyed tonight with the Boise geeks... Pours a slightly hazed orange brew with a nice white head... The nose is a bit bubblegummy, is a Belgian yeast used? I don't think so... Nice fruity hoppiness with a good bitterness on the palate.. Pretty well made, but I would dial back the bubblegum notes a bit.

Poured in a pint glass on tap at Carter's in Billings, MT. I was initially scared of this IPA, with a triple-digit IBU and an ABV of over 8%! But its surprisingly balanced and drinkable, certainly not a session beer but I can drink one or two of these before the hops are stabbing me. Lovely beer\, just like everything Carter's brews. Cheers!
