Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a deep hazy brownish-amber color with a tiny head of off white foam. The head fades super fast leaving just a tiny bit of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell- The aroma of the brew is strong of caramel malts and a bit of a bready smell. Along with these aromas comes notes of a fruity nature with the fruit being of a darker nature of cherry and some fig and raisin. A little bit of a citrus hop are there as well, giving a very sweet aroma overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweet caramel and bready taste as the nose would have suggested. These flavors create a strong base flavor for the brew and remain throughout being joined by more fruity flavors of a cherry and plum nature. As the taste moves on further, a little bit of an earthy and grassy flavor come to the tongue, and along with a bit of a grainy and grassy flavor ends up leaving a malty and sweet, but easy going flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the average to slightly chewier side with a carbonation level that is slightly lower. For the strong ale style it is rather nice as it creates a nice base for the sweeter and malty flavors all while keeping it still rather approachable.
Overall – A rather decent strong ale overall. Not too strong, but easier drinking with a lot of the strong characteristics, just mellowed a little bit. A nice one to try.
