Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance- The beer is served a pitch black color with a tiny head of tan colored foam. The head fades very rapidly leaving, some streaks of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell- the aroma of the beer is strong of a nice roasted malt smell with a good deal of coffee and some burnt notes mixed within. A rather nice chocolate aroma is there as well, mixed with a little bit of a vanilla smell and some caramel aromas as well. Overall the aroma is dark, roasty and somewhat sweet.
Taste- The taste begins with a nice roasty malt flavor with a good level of coffee and sweeter chocolate upfront. Right upfront there is some caramel and vanilla that adds to the sweeter chocolate, but as the taste moves on, the sweet fades more and more, all while the coffee and the darker chocolate grow more potent and are joined by a little bit of a yeasty taste. Some flavors of toast and a little bit of a molasses come later on, and are joined by a surge of the vanilla and some more caramel sweetness as well as an increase in the yeast, which end up leaving a very pleasant chocolaty and moderately sweet roasty stout flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel-The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. The feel is fantastic for the chocolate and sweeter flavors mixed with the roastier and toastier tastes of the brew. Overall a very nice feel.
Overall- From what I could ascertain from the description, this is supposed to be a Belgian stout, but I did not get too much Belgian from it. Even so this was a rather nice and tasty stout overall, with a great sweet chocolate flavor mixed with a good roasty base.
