Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a lightly hazed reddish amber color with a one finger head of a tan colored foam. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a great level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a nice roasted malt smell mixed with a hint of a chocolate like sweetness. Along with these aromas comes some lighter notes of spice and a little bit of pine and earth.
Taste – The taste begins with a nice roasty malt flavor mixed with a little bit of a caramel sweetness. The caramel increases and is joined by some light dark fruit tastes as the taste advances. Along with these tastes comes some spice of a nutmeg flavor as well as some hop flavors of an earthy and pine taste. The hop ramps it up a bit more toward the end of the taste, and with the nutmeg getting stronger, and some light bitter chocolate coming at the end, one is left with a sorta weird spiced and dry taste that lingers on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is average in thickness and carbonation. Overall for the taste profile it works pretty well.
Overall – A decent amber overall. A moderate sum of hope and spice adds an interesting dimension to the brew. A good one to try.
