Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served an orange amber color with a small white head of white fizzy foam. The head fades rather rapidly, leaving almost no lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is strongest of a light biscuit smell mixed with a bit of caramel. A very light orange and some yeast are in there as well.
Taste – the taste begins with a slightly sweeter citrus and caramel taste mixed with some notes of yeast and some bread. As the taste advances the breadlines increases with the sweet initially fading a bit. The sweet citrus is replaced by a little bit more bread and a bit more caramel. Some light funky tastes of hay and grass and a tiny bit of tartness comes at the end of the taste. This coupled with an increase in the more bready taste, its leaves one with a moderately malty and sweet, but still very approachable taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker side with a carbonation level that is on the average side. For the style and the mix of malt, sweet, light hop and funk, the feel seems pretty appropriate.
Overall – A quite nice brew overall. It is a little bit sweeter for the traditional bier de garde, but still very drinkable and flavorful. A nice tasty brew and one to try if you get the chance.
