Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is a dark brown color with a small tan colored head. The head fades very fast leaving just a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a toasted bready smell with a little bit of a caramel and molasses mixed within. Along with these aromas comes some lighter notes of a dark fruit smell as well as a little bit of chocolate.
Taste – The taste begins with a toasted bready taste that contains a good showing of molasses and caramel. Brown sugar flavors develop more and more as the taste advances with the caramel fading a bit. Throughout, the roastiness grows with some of the dark fruit detected in the nose growing in as well. In the end, the caramel surges and the roastiness fades just a little bit to leave one with a moderately sweet and malty flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker side with a carbonation level that is rather low. For the sweeter and roasty flavors the brew the feel is spot on and allows all the rich flavors to really be sensed.
Overall – A pretty nice scotch ale overall. Sweet, but not obnoxiously so, with the brew containing a nice smooth flavor.
