Beer review from BA Mag Nov 2007.

A beer just for the ladies, or at least that is the way the marketing of this beer is going, as a percentage of the beer sales go to women's entrepreneurship start-ups and charitable causes. Flavored with honey and rosehips, perhaps the first rosehip beer we have tried. Contract brewed.

Hazy, pale amber color with some active bubbles, good head retention to start with some sticky patches of lace on the glass after each sip. Slight tartness of the rosehips in the aroma contrasts with the honey and malt sweetness. Maltiness kicks it off with mild toasted-grain and caramel flavors, earthy tones set in from the mildly tart rosehips and nutty yeast. Faint honey flavor balances out the tartness a bit. Hops are non-existent. Semidry, finishes with a pretty clean aftertaste.

Unique is the first word that comes to mind, a bit of hop bitterness from a noble hop would have helped this brew a bit more. Refreshing and easy to drink, not half bad.

Pours a light amber color, topped by a small, off-white head that slowly recedes to a thin ring. Aroma of light pale malt, mildly sweet honey, and a light floral character from the rose hips. Palate is tangy up front, a light tartness from the flowers more than offsetting the sweetness from the malt and honey. Body is a touch foamy, not particularly unpleasant but distracting from the flavor. Finish is thin, with a lingering light tang and very mild astringency. I won't be drinking this one again.

Appearance: Pours a hazy, copper body that never quite forms an semblance of a head. Oh well!

Smell: Sweetish, toasty malt nose with floral and graham cracker notes.

Taste: Toasty, graham cracker flavor with a touch of honey sweetness. Floral, lightly herbal, with a hint of rose water. Restrained bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: I'm left wanting a punchier taste, but I do, however, appreciate the drinkably low ABV.

Pours a pale color, slightly cloudy with a small almost non existent head. Smells of honey, fruit and malt. First is flowery with honey being the dominate flavor. Very sweet with not much bitterness. Light bodied with average carbonation. Not too bad but could use a maltier backbone.

A- Honey Amber Rose pours a hazy orange/brown color with a small white head that dissipates quickly leaving a thin rim of foam.

S- A very floral character, sweet malts are dominant in the nose, other notes of apricot and honey

T- Sweet malty presence is right upfront, a slightly acidic, citric, hop character mid palate than sweet honey and malt flavor linger in to the aftertaste.

M- Light body, very dull carbonation, this beer needs to be twice as 'bright', slightly sticky and coating mouth feel.

D- Fair, i wouldn't revisit.

Overall this is a good selection out of Florida. The name Honey Amber Rose is a little intimidating, especially if you do not consider yourself a honey beer type of person..

A: Pours a golden-amber color that leaves a little head with minimal retention

S: Honey, caramel, malts, and the hops are really non existent

T: Sweetness, honey, caramel, a bitter note that could be rose hops

MF: Very smooth and silky going down...Definitely a medium-light beer that leaves a clean and VERY refreshing feeling

D: Definitely a session beer if you have the cash for it. Especially during a hot & humid summer day in South Florida

I picked this up at the new Whole Foods in Coral Gables, FL. You don't see all too many Florida breweries, so I figured I'd give it a try.
This beer has different layers of color. The bottom is more of a bright orangey amber, and turns kind of a murky apple cider (non alcoholic) color towards the top. It's kind of a strange phenomenon... Starts out with a thick white head that bubbles down quickly.
The scent is pretty much all honey with some light floral notes. It smells like a rose honey that I have at home.
The taste is pretty weak. Not very much on the front, maybe a light floral taste with a little bit of grain. There's a slightly stronger honey flavor on the back of the tongue, but still not that much. The taste is pretty weak.
The carbonation is almost soda like, and you could tell by the sound of it right after it poured.
Overall, pretty disappointing... hopefully they keep trying, though! it would be nice to see more beers coming out of this state.

Pours a hazy golden amber color, nice carbonation, tiny fizzy white head, not much sticky lacing follows. The nose is malty, slightly tangy, and some caramel. The taste is malty, tangy/bitter, and some caramel. Medium body. Drinkable, a thirst quencher, tasty.

Appearance: Unsurprisingly, what color is it? Honey. Decent head, with little retention and no lacing.

Smell: honey, slight floral character - don't think I could place it as rose hips, though.

Taste: Overwhelmingly honey. I've made meads that had less honey flavor than this. No hops character to be noted. Slight floral finish, but I can't get over how much honey there is. You could put this on toast.

Mouthfeel: light-medium body, smooth, honey aftertaste

Drinkability: 12 oz is too much for me, I'm afraid. Honey flavor is overwhelming, and I like honey.

Pours a clear, light amber color. Has a small white head and fairly good lacing. Some honey in the aroma - malty/slightly sweet. The taste is good, nothing stands out. SLight maltiness but mostly mildly sweet taste and very smooth. Mouthfeel is a hair thin. Drinkability is good, goes down smooth. Pitchers of this stuff on a hot day would be very welcome.

"Brewed with honey and rose hips". Pours an orangish copper color with a nice creamy white head that does a great job of sticking all over the glass. Honey is definately prevalent in the nose along with some malt. Taste is sweet honey with a slightly floral background. Really not that bad at all! I was not expecting much when I purchased this but it really surprised me. Overall, not really my style of beer but pretty it is a pretty decent beer! The sweetness does detract from the drinkability.

Pours a slightly cloudy light copper color with a small head.

A strong smell of honey is the first thing you notice in the aroma along with wheaty malts.

The flavor really isn't all that bad. I thought there was going to be an overpowering sweetness to this brew but it is suprisingly balanced. The body of the flavor is wheat with hints of honey and floral notes in the background.

This brew is way better than I thought it would be. This is the third quality brew I've tried from the Indian River Brewing Co., I'm really starting to like them.

Highs: Interesting flavor, nice coloring
Lows: Narrow appeal

I was quite hesitant to pick up this beer at the local Albertson’s here in Florida. However, when I saw that it was from Florida microbrewery, I decided to give it a try. Having tried “flavored beers” before, I did not have high hopes, but I must admit I was pleasantly surprised.

The pour is an attractive dusky and honey color with minimal head that fades rapidly, reminiscent of mead. Nose is of malt with something sweet. Honey is definitely evident, and something floral, perhaps hinting at rose. Flavor is sweet with some malt toward the end, but overall pleasantly light with a definite honey flavor. It’s similar to a light honey lager or light mead. The mouth is watery but more substantial than average, and for having such a small head, is surprisingly bubbly. Finish is lightly bitter. Drinkability is good, and it’s quite a refreshing beer.

Overall: I’d recommend this to anyone interested in trying a light honey lager or light “mead” style beer.

A friend brought a couple bottles of this by. I was a bit off put when I saw the description as malt beverage brewed with honey and rose hips and honey added. Thought I'd try it anyway. This beverage pours a hazy orange from a twelve ounce brown bottle. A little bit of malt and some floral notes in the aroma. Tastes like a decent lager with some honey and floral notes added in. Not really my thing, but not bad either. Worth a try.

This beer pours a deeply hazy orangish-red color, it is topped by a wispy, thin pale head. The aroma is interesting; it is a mix of floral astringency, hints of sweet malt, light acidity, and of course rose blossoms. The beer has a definite honey sweetness to it (is this pasteurized) that seems to hide the floral notes that were found in the nose a bit. The beer is quite thin on the palate, and there is a bit of acidity in the finish (perhaps from the rose addition) that also tends to make this beer quite light and quaffable. This beer is not too bad, it is perhaps better than I was expecting. I like how the floral characteristics, the sweet honey, and the acidity all blend to create an easy sipping brew.

Pours from the tap a beautiful straw-orange color with a little head that recedes to a thin film.
Smell is honey, malt and light hops with a hint of crystallized ginger.
Taste is hops, honey, malt, rose hips and a hint of cider. Well blended with the hops slightly dominant.
Smooth, lightly carbonated with a light body. A good flavor throughout and decent balance make this beer worth a try.

Gifted to me at the recent Philly BA rally. Thanks Ev! Cloudy/hazy wheat-tinged golden amber with a nice 1.2" head of thick white foam, that lasts a while and leaves spotchy lace on my pils glass. The aroma is wheaty, and reminiscent of many light American wheat beers. There are also hints of honey and flowers in the aroma as well. The taste is very wheaty again, but the honey is definately in the background malts and some rose may be in there as well. This is a very easy driking American wheat beer with a little twist to it, and although it is not mind-blowing in any sense, it really hit the spot for me after taking a big walk on what was most likely the hottest evening we have had so far this year. Completely solid and very drinkable. A great gift.
