While grabbing a burger with my girlfriend at Gilded Otter I decided to give their amber a try, and as usual I was not disappointed. The pint arrived with a medium-sized creamy, bubbly, and quite persistent head. The beer was a slightly hazy dark amber, and it left plenty of lacing on the glass as I drained it.
Like the other Gilded Otter brews I've tasted, this one had very little scent. Though subtle, the smell was fresh, mildly spicy, and inviting. Also like those other brews, the faintness ended when I took a swig. The taste came on with a creamy, crisp maltiness, and then gave a nice woody snap. A subtle spiciness contributed to the overall taste, but I was barely conscious of it because of the way it hid behind the woodiness. The next stage was subtly hoppy and spicy, and the very finish carried a fascinatingly pleasant metallic tang.
Once again a Gilded Otter beer impresses me with its drinkability. This is becoming a trend.
