I used to come here alot but now only when in the area which is not very often. Eisgrub is the best brewery in the area. The beer is very good for a region not known for beer. I always order the pork knuckle. It's the best pork knuckle in the Rhine-Main area. We'll be back someday.

Sat at the bar for a few beers as I had already eaten elsewhere and wasn’t feeling traditional German food anyway. Looked good from the surrounding tables. Touristy but a fun spot overall in a nice part of town. Beer choices are thin but they’re very good.

Good food, great atmosphere for an authentic German pub and brewery. Only wish they had a few more styles on tap, other than that very cool place and worth a visit!

Eisgrub-Bräu, location already described, is in the Mainz Altstadt.

It's a cozy little restaurant and brewpub, typically only serving two or three types of beer at a time. There are lots of small "room" subdivisions, each with either with smaller tables with four chairs, or several larger tables with bench seating. It's fairly loud here, with lots of friendly conversations going on all around. The service was very friendly and attentive. I was actually really impressed with the great service, considering how crowded this place has been every time I've gone.

The food is mostly traditional German, with some dishes focusing on specialties from the Rheinland-Pfalz and Hessen regions. I forget what it was that I ordered, but it was pretty good, and the price was actually quite inexpensive.

The beers must rotate, but when I was there, a schwarzbier and a helles were on tap. Both were delicious.

If you're in the area, give this place a go.

Eisgrub-bräu in Mainz is a great spot for beer. They are a brewpub located in the city center of Mainz. They serve a Pils, Märzen and a Dunkles that are all out of this world. All beers are brewed on premise, and they have the brewery set up behind glass so you can watch it ferment as you drink. The food is all right, but well priced.

The beer is served in 0.2L, 0.4L, Maß (1.0L), Meter (12 0.2's on a meter long stick), or Turm (3.0 or 5.0 Liter tower of beer with self serve tap). You can also take home 1.0L bottles.

Nice little place pretty close to the downtown area. 3 beers on when we visited, a light Gold lager a helles and a maerzen, beers sold in .33 l and 1 litre Mass sizes. Tried the helles and the maerzen, both were very nice (not exceptional but nice). Food was also good and reasonably priced, the service was very good. They sell 3 and 5 litre "streichs" (tall cylindrcal glasses with a gravity tap at the bopttom) that can be brought to the table for small groups, you can then refill your own beer. Fermentation tanks can be seen along the walkway in the back.
