on-tap, Pony Bar in Manhattan

local wet-hop? Sure, why not

appearance: served in a standard chelsea pint glass, straw body, healthy white head

smell: lightly hopped, tea, mild citrus

taste: a lot of wet hopped IPA's seem to come in a little modest on the palate - certainly not many "west coast" traits here. minimal citrus, tea-like hops, doughy, toasted grain. This was fine, but the title suggested it might be better

mouthfeel: light on the palate

drinkability: easy

Many thanks to SuperNova777 aka Josh for the chance to try this out. Review from phone notes:

A- Poured a brownish coppery color. One finger white head shows light retention and leaves light streaky lacing on the sides of the glass.

S- The aroma to me was little off putting. There was a light sweet malt to this but also a ton of stale rye coming out. A floral hop in this tried to bring it back to balance with also a grassy earthy hop hint here and there. Overall, more earthy which wasn't bad but the interesting choice of rye kind of killed it for me.

T- The taste didn't fit that of a wet hop ale. There was a light grassy hop bite in the front. This went fast which led up to a sweet malt base with a touch of a almost burnt plastic taste. Luckly, this dies back to a earthy hop bite in the end that blends well with a light rye note.

M- Light medium mouthfeel. Carbonation was good for the beer. Light grassy hops with sweet malts left on the palate. Aftertaste had some grassy hops with light rye notes backing it up. Alcohol showed light drying on the palate. Flavors were balanced for what they were. There was something about this that didn't fit a clean tasting bill with me.

D- This didn't sit right with me for some reason. I drank my pint and a couple ounces extra but I wasn't feeling it. I wouldn't say this is a wet hop ale but then of course it wasn't quite what I was expecting. Nice try but not for me.
