Organic hops provide big citrus-fruit forward bouquet and flavors. Ferocious balances citrus-forward hops with hard red spring wheat grown at Twin Oaks Farm on San Juan Island in Washington.
Fermented with blood orange juice for extra citrus complexity.

not sure if this is a special edition or a different beer with the blood orange in it, or if they original citrus one was blood orange too, but it was called out specifically as blood orange at the bar i had it at, so i will review it in this space, even though perhaps they are the same beer, never had it before under either name. its cool how many beers these guys make, this is perhaps more citrus than hops, for an ipa, there is some acidity and tang to the fruit part, which almost makes it seem like the fermentation is weird, and its both malty looking and darker colored, as well as hazy in the glass from the tap, short headed and murky. some tang to the nose and taste, the fruit before the hops to both senses, and then a little more bitter bite than flavor once they come on, some compatible citrus too, grapefruit specifically, but it kind of works to highlight more of the blood orange. i get a little pine and almost woodiness too, the more sturdy crystal malt supporting it all pretty well but also making it drink heavier than i want these flavors to feel. ive never loved blood orange in beer, it sounds sexy and all, and the fruit itself rules, but it continues to boggle my mind why it shows up in so many beers, weird. this could use a little less body and a little more carbonation, maybe a different dry hop too, its juicy and flavorful, but not totally dialed in to me either, and i did not order a second pint. sill, always a treat to try a new one from these guys. if the one just called citrus ipa has like grapefruit and lemon and lime in it, that might work better with these hops than the blood orange does, but im not sure if thats the case or not...
