Served in a goblet at the brewpub this beer is a red-amber color with a small off white head. The smell is of sweet esters and chewy sticky biscuits. The first taste is interesting. Sweet fruity esters of cherry and caramel come through. I see that it is brewed with an abundance of candi sugars. They impart a very sweet quality to this brew. Somewhat of a phenolic twinge in the aftertaste combined with some alcohol tingle. Very sweet overall, I thought it lacked on the hops and bitterness for a Belgian Dark. A good one for sipping, but I don't believe I'd get more than one a night.

Fresh off the tap, and in a growler. A bright red colour with a small off-white film of foam. Aromas are interesting. Spices, belgin yeast, candy sugar, lightly herbal/medicinal hops, and just a hint of light bready maltiness. The taste is quite hoppy and medicinal up-front with a spicy/bready middle and a coriander infused hop bite finish. Mouthfeel is light for a belgian of this abv%, but it works OK. The drinkability is pretty good as well, however, I would not get another growler of this stuff. Fegley said this was the evil brother of their stumbling monk brew. I've yet to try the original, but this was an interesting "twist" on something...
