Brewed once, in celebration of the annual progressive music festival, Nearfest (NorthEast Art Rock Festival), held each June at Bethlehem's Zoellner Arts Center (Lehigh University). Last year it was the appropriately-named Thundering Hammond, and this year the 10X10 celebrates the festival's 10th Anniversary.
Poured out of the growler a wonderfully creamy head, lots of stick and hold...the color of a rust/copper sunset.
Aroma is clean, fresh, fragrant hops. Mild doughy malt in background, but it's mostly hops with flowery, sweet and spice hints. Simple and wonderful.
Hops are citrus, mostly grapefruit juice, plus generous balance from cookie-dough maltiness. Flavorful as hell, just about as bitter and intense as an IPA can be without crossing over to Imperial territory.
Texture is butter and velvet. Ample carbonation, but super-smooth. Lightly sticky finish, plenty of citrus rind clinging to the tongue after each sip.
This was insanely fresh, which helped the enjoyment factor considerably. Probably the best I've ever had from this brewery. Cheers to the brewer for this concoction, and to Morglbl, Banco, Koenji Hyakkei, Peter Hammill and Discipline for making it another super-enjoyable Nearfest. A fittingly quality beer to commemorate the event.
