On tap at Belmont Station. Beautiful beer.
A very dark brown with a dense, light brown head with excellent retention and lacing, this looks great! The nose is what you'd expect given the brewers' pedigree. A fantastic, rich, malty , mildly doughy caramelized wheat malt, nice fruitiness with plum and some figs, a moderate hop backbone, earthy and minty. On the palate, this opens with a nice blend of layered dark fruit (plums, figs), caramelized sugars, a little bit of burnt sugar sweetness and bitterness. The burnt sugar bitterness segues into the mild but firm hop bite, tying together the malt flavors. Creamy, medium bodied, silky and sublime (as is expected from a HA beer), this beer is softly carbonated, accentuating all the right notes. While this is lagered in oak, it is subtly integrated into both the nose and the palate, with a little vanilla and a touch of tannin to complement the bitterness. Fantastic stuff.
