This is our Vienna-style lager—an amber lager with some malt attributes similar to Dunkel, but lighter and clearer. Vienna-style lagers were an early attempt to make paler beers. While the style has largely died out where it started, we enjoy the great balance of malty flavors in this beer.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours an amber/orange with a relatively thin layer of off-white head. The nose is full of apples, peaches, malts, pears, grass, biscuits, and some toffee.

The taste is excellent. Soft notes of toffee, wheat, grass, grains, big bready malts, and some wood. The fruit is solid on the taste, with apricots and plums. Mild hops round things off and persist on the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and fairly dry. Overall, a great beer!

Clear dark amber body with a tan sudsy head and thick lacing. Nose features wonderful toasty malts and yeast, complimentary leafy hops. Cracker, caramel malt, brown bread, and a kiss of roasted nuts added to the taste. Feel is malty smooth before a sneaky bitter hop and yeast elevation occurs, little thin.

Look: A beautiful looking clear reddish-orange with a fluffy white head that quickly builds and settles to a film, leaving sticky lacing clung to the glass
Aroma: Fresh baked brown bread, bread crust, toffee, raw dough, floral hops, and some caramel
Taste: Starts off with a hit of bready malt and toffee before nice floral hops plunge into the mix – a little paperbush, Japanese aralia, and honeysuckle present amongst others. Waves of bread crust and dough battle for position in the tastiest of ways along with some caramel and closes with more floral hops
Mouthfeel: Full but light feeling, extremely clean throughout, medium-high carbonation, and a clean and crisp finish
Overall: This is awesome. Every time I have a beer from these folks, it seems to be a solidification of why I think they are not only one of the best lager brewers in the state, but also my personal favorite. An outstanding Vienna Lager with great malt character and depth along with ample floral hop notes throughout and in a clean, crisp, refreshing, and seemingly flawless package. Highly recommended and I already want more myself

Cloudy lighter amber body. Crisp freshly toasted bread, floral and earthy hop notes, a bit leafy on the backend in terms of bitterness. Medium toasted caramel and slight pumpernickel sweetness underlies everything. Lighter medium body, lots of flavor.

Great clear and copper hued body; gently rising carbonation; thick and billowy white head; small, sticky patches of foam cling to the glass. Rich, toasted grain smell; mild herbal hop notes. Fine toasted grain flavor with a mild sweetness throughout; very little hop bitterness detected. Medium body; excellent residual sugar texture; semi-sweet mouthfeel overall.

This Vienna-style beer does justice to the styling. It is definitely malt-forward and brings a muted sweetness to the palate. Its relatively low ABV makes this an easy beer to enjoy.

A: The beer is slightly hazy light amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short off white head that left a narrow collar around the edge of the glass and some lacing down the sides.
S: Light aromas of toasted malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, having a bit stronger flavors of toasted malts and faint hints of spicy hops and a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied and a bit dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer seems a little lighter in body compared to others in the style, making it quite easy to drink.

16oz can

Not really sure what to expect here because this is named Marzen, but it’s called a Vienna?? Get it together guys.

Pours over two fingers of white head into my Willi glass. Retention is quite nice so far, after 5 minutes there is still nearly a finger left. Initial lacing looks very thick as well. This already looks more like a Marzen, the body is a dark bronze, not quite as dark as most Vienna’s would be. High clarity, minimal bubbles coming up. Looks really nice so far.

Nose is a little peculiar. Not really what I would call bready or caramelly, brief moments of bread crust, but not baked bread. There is an intense malty sweetness, almost candi or honey like. These dudes better not have put honey malt in here. This is what I remember Marzen’s smelling like before I liked them. Definitely does not smell “clean” with the amount of sugar on the nose, while that is common to some degree, I don’t think this much. That is slightly compensated by the smooth nature of the nose, which does help a little bit. All things considered, this still smells pretty good, but I’m cautious going into it.

Flavor is also very peculiar, not as sweet as it smelled, which is good. That said, it’s still fighting for an identity. It is somewhat dry, neutral and bitter through the first half of the palate, finishes with some perceived sweetness, caramel, and more bitterness that leads to a dry aftertaste. It’s a little all over the place, and things aren’t really working together. It’s definitely too bitter, which is off style, that lingers and is unpleasant; it’s also dry at times which is a little much when paired with the bitterness; the perceived sweetness is likely just that, perceived, and while it does an ok job of balancing the dry parts, it feels a little lost; similarly, the malt flavor is sort of present when the sweetness comes, but only for a second and it leaves a little to be desired. Overall the flavor doesn’t really say Marzen to me, the malt is too insignificant and awkward, and the dry bitterness is a little much. These are all very nitpicky, but that’s kinda the deal with lagers, right?

Body has a good amount of weight to it despite it being primarily dry, I suppose those don’t always go hand in hand. Carbonation is on the higher side. Not a huge fan of the mouth mostly because of the abrasive dry bitterness.

Drinkability is fine. While I’m picking apart the little details here, this isn’t bad.

Appearance turned out decent. The head took a minute, but eventually disappeared completely. Lacing was minimal, but nice where is stuck.

Overall an ok beer, but all the little imperfections start to add up, especially when you really want a glass of bread.

Our first from HA; canned on 28 Dec and enjoyed on Feb 11th. Nice pour, amber color, slight haze, a finger of frothy head, aroma of malt and rising bread dough. First sip is a dry, malt-forward beer with mild balanced hop flavor. A pleasant sipper, good for anytime. A very well crafted beer.

Yeah - I like dat. What is masterful, you know? Like, not a lot of things. Not everything can be Joseph Von Sternberg this or Fritz Lang that. But to hell with it. Again, this beer is not the pinnacle of grace, but I’m still going to call it a F.W. Morneau beer because it’s just damn good.

How you like them apples?
