The name might suggest a red ale. But Erik is an IPA brewed with German melanoidin malts that impart a dark auburn color. The beer is unfiltered and is patterned after Midnight Sun's Sockeye Red IPA. Erik has a raw, homebrew-ish quality with modest suds, low carbonation, and a thin, astringent body. A floral hops aroma leaps forth cheerfully and the taste is verdant and hoppy though compressed. In the end, the mouthfeel is too distracting and thwarts all further enjoyment.
