April 30th, 2015 - Third on our list (thematically, first world have been more appropriate) is the Maiden Voyage. It's a blushing orange color in the glass with just a shadow of haziness, with a tangy and acidic aroma that smells a little like a punch. The flavor is also tangy but more sour, with cranberry and cream mixed together creating a pleasant cocktail of flavors.

Reviewed from (long-standing) notes. Poured from 22 oz. bottle into an unmarked pint glass.
A: Hazy gold, fairly low visible carbonation, and a two-finger white head that fades quickly.
S: Lactic tartness, lemons and citric acid, and mild tart cherries. Some biscuity malts with some wheaty grist as well.
T: Lactic tartness and acid. Cherries that come across as tart but also with a pie filling or maraschino quality. Cracker malts with light wheat quality. More lactic acid in the hang with a dry finish.
M: Fairly light body, low carbonation sensation. Low alcohol presence, but certainly seems higher than a typical Berliner.
O: Not particularly good. The cherry flavor is off, and it missed the mark on the light bubbly character of Berliner. Meh at best.

What the heck is a Imperial Berliner Weisse? With that in mind, I decided to approach the 22 ounce bottle with dinner. On to the beer:
A small head sits above this light orange colored beer with red hues. I smell a little cider, a note of cherry, and a little lactic acid. Despite being an imperialized Berliner, its modest taste offers sweet and tart cherries, a note of cheese and a candied cherry note ,so nothing too crazy, though certainly likable. With time, I also get a little caramel It's light-bodied with a little bit of booze being felt, and with the latter kept in mind, one should be mindful how quick this beer can catch up to you.

I am a sucker for cherry beers so when I saw this weiss which is normally sour aged with cherries I paid the 10 bucks for the bomber.
A - Medium pour resulted in a inch plus of bubbly head that takes a minute to fizz out. Beer is a golden orange with a slight haze.
S - Huh I expected more sour on the nose but got slight lemon peel, fruity yeast, and some candied cherries. Sweet smelling is good too.
T - Well it does have an extreme amount of sour like lemon juice that takes you by surprise each sip. Cherry is more hidden buried slightly underneath the sour. Kind of underwhelming since the flavor just fades off afterwords.
M - Can't beat the body its light and crisp drinking like its 4-5% counterpart. Good sour taste.
Overall good to try since its an Imperial Weiss and I never had one but it didn't have the in your face cherry I expected. Still a great beer overall worth trying if you like the sour!

Pours a murky reddish-orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is sour with grain, cherry, lemon juice, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with sour cherry, lemon juice, and acidic flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice use of cherries that work well with the base beer.

Pale copper with a slight reddish hue. Barely one finger head dissipated fairly quickly.
Lemon zest aroma with a hint of sour cherry.
Taste follows the nose. Sourness kicks up a little as it warms. Pleasantly tart.
Lightly carbonated but had a slightly thicker feel than I thought I might be expecting.
My first of this style and very first review here. Cheers!
