Bottle. Deep brown. Tan head. Frothy at first and dissipates quickly.
Sweet over caramelised sugar smell.
Sweetness extends into the flavour. Mild burnt malt grain. Little depth.
Thin.
Reasonable and different for a low alcohol beer.

A 275ml bottle with a BB of May 2018. Purchased a while back from the Harvey's brewery shop in Lewes. Described on the label as a rare style that was popular in the mid-20th century; possesses an aroma of burnt sugar. No explicit mention of lactose.
A: Poured into a tulip. A very dark reddish-brown hue that appears ultra black in the glass. Produces a smallish head of creamy brown foam that lasts for a moment before settling and dissipating.
S: Aroma of sweet malt with hints of dried fruit, caramel, mild brown sugar and ale yeast. Pretty subtle.
T: Tastes of sweet dark malt with notes of mild dried fruit, caramel malt, subtle brown sugar, faint burnt grain, ale yeast and a twinge of stewed hops. Quite sweet, with little bitterness to speak of.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and delicately tingly, with very soft carbonation and a light yet creamy body. Like velvet on the palate. Aftertaste of sweet malt, caramel, mild sugar, faint dried fruit and ale yeast.
O: Decent, though a very understated style that probably isn't to everyone's taste. Looks OK, while the aroma and flavour are a subtle blend of sweet malt, caramel, mild dried fruit and ale yeast. Nice body for the strength. Alright if you've got a sweet tooth or want something easy on the senses.

This smells of vanilla chocolate and caramel which is quite sweet more like a malzbier than a beer only even sweeter. The taste is very similar but unfortunately also has a slightly sickly quality to it wchich makes it almost undrinkable.
Therefore it s an avoid rather than a drink.

330 mL black/dark brown bottle.
A: blackish beer poured into a glass, thinnish head.
S: burnt sugar and minor underpinnings of cocoa.
T: slightly disappointing here--I love Harvey's and I tend to like sweet stouts (or any stouts for that matter), but I was a bit letdown on this one. It was way too subtle, didn't taste of much of anything.
M: mouthfeel echoes the taste--maybe I got a bad bottle?
D: wasn't that great, but I'd give it another shot just to be sure.
