Per the Red Eye menu, this brew is a collaboration between Red Eye and Blind Tiger Brewery. I bought a pint with my dinner at the Red Eye brewery this weekend.
L: Has a deep brown color--almost cola-like--hazy at the edges where the light shines through. A tan head of about an inch dissipate after a bit and leaves nice lacing on the glass. Moderate carbonation at the edges of the glass where it can be seen.
S: Very hop-forward aroma: nice pine hops, with a bit of citrus in the mix, as well. Not to be outdone, the malts have a strong voice, roasty and robust. Very nice nose.
T: A bit of the sweetness of caramel malt at the very front, with more of the roasted quality developing throughout the arc of the taste. At the front, as well, the hops immediately make their presence felt--nice and piney, with just a bit of citrus brightening things up. The middle smooths out a bit, with the roasted malts emerging more but the hops still stealing the show. There's a real earthy quality that presents itself here. The back end is decidedly bitter from the hops, with the malts still providing a nice counterpoint. Tasty brew.
F: Firmly medium-bodied. It's bright, smooth, and bitter in turns. This one is plenty substantial without feeling syrupy. Very nice level of carbonation.
O: I really enjoy Red Eye's Thrust, but this one takes those flavors to wonderful new place. Those dark malts really add a nice level of dimension to this otherwise very hop-forward beer. I definitely recommend giving this one a try.
