A dark beer with perhaps a faint amber color hidden in the darkness. Decently sized foamy head.

Very distinctive aroma. Smells of pumpkin pie spices with a bit of caramel sweetness and roasted malt.

I've tried plenty of pumpkin beers that are much more about the spice than the pumpkin. This beer uses the spice as a good accent to the pumpkin without overpowering, and blends very well with the porter taste.

A bit on the heavy side, but I think this works well with the flavor. Certainly not too heavy.

More drinkable than you might think a beer with this combination of elements might be, but you certainly wouldn't want to down several of them. I definitely had no problem finishing a pint.

Got to the Red Eye 2 hours into the release party, I was on an empty stomach and wanted a pizza more than the beer but I had to try this first before snagging a growler

Pours standard dark brown/black porter color, with a nice-but-not-memorable roasted malt nose. Didn't get any pumpkin smell at all, but the food smell may have been masking it.

The taste is that of a really solid porter. The pumpkin is hidden for a bit, but once the brew warms you begin to sense that pumpkin flavor rising. Not much in the way of nutmeg or other spices found in a lot of these beers, which is a big positive for me.

Mouthfeel is a bit fuller than medium bodied. I had no problem finishing my pint off, this was a damn good beer.
