From notes.

On-tap at brewery.

A - black/brown. Head dies to clingy sheets of lace.

S - muted, too cold. Coffee as it warms.

T - Coffee to the fore, then choc, very mellow and rounded. Hints of vanilla and smoke.

M - Light carbonation.

O - a real find, surprisingly good.

A - Pours a very dark reddy brown colour with thick biege foamy head that retains well.

S - Burnt toffee, sweet caramel, roasted malts with a hint of fruits and a little spice

T - Sweet roasted malts with a definite burnt flavour that becomes a little unpleasant but then is balanced fairly well with a fruity and slightly hoppy finish.

M - Medium bodied and fairly high in carbonation but still fairly smooth

O - Not a bad effort by Mudgee. By far their best beer and one I would recommend to try. A fairly nice and balanced beer.

On tap at Paddy's Brewers Market Festival. I wanted three middies for me and my mates, but they only had enough for one - we shared it, and they very kindly gave it to me for free.

Pours a deep dark brown, tinged with red at the edges. Some decent beige foam on it that dissipates a little, and only leaves a poor lacing remnant.

Dark notes on the nose with a light acetic acidity to it, a little roasted sweetness, but it smells very generic to me.

Smooth on the palate, roasty sweet with a blithely medicinal back palate. The phenolic character sticks around for too long, but otherwise it has some rather pleasant porter characteristics. Mouthfeel is smooth, and it was served at a good cellar temperature.

Drinkable, and a pretty decent porter. Good characters stylistically, and structurally sound. If it has some odd notes, they can be forgiven, because overall, it's pretty tasty.

Pours very dark brown, aproaching black with garnet highlights around the edges. Apears reasonably clear, fine streams of carbonation slowly rising. moderate sized dark tan head with wonderfull retention and good lacing.

A faint aroma. hints of roasted malt, charcoal, cocoa and bread. Hop aroma is very faint but some notes of fruity esters detectable.

Moderate burnt malt flavour, lightly burnt but not weak. Perfect malt profile, sweet malts maintain wonderfull balance against the bitter roast malts but never dominate. Some toasty sweetness on the edges of the palate. Hops flavours are subtle but acompany the beer very well. Showing themselves more toward the end. Fuity hop characters begin to show in the aftertaste. Terrific balance. Strong flavours but gentle presentation.

Medium to full body. Moderatley high fine carbonation.

A great porter from the guys at Mudgee, this ticks almost all the boxes for the style. A great session brew and by far their best beer.

Pours with a massive dark-tan head. Deep Dark color with red highlights. Leaves some nice lacing after the head settles to a more manageable thickness.

Good sweet malt aroma with a bit of rough ash tray dryness. Good sort of contrast without getting any hops mixed in.

Taste has a similar sweet-dry contrast. Even gets a touch of dark fruit after it warms. Maybe dark chocolate? Quite a bit going on, nice.

The only thing letting this down is the mouthfeel. A little thin and uninspiring, but otherwise pretty damn tasty.
