A - Served with about a finger of white head...the body was a deep copper color with not much clarity...there wasn't a lot of lace

S - A sweet malt (caramel) dominated nose...there is a faint earthy hop presence

T - Here the flavors balance out a lot more...the sweetness is there right off the bat...it doesn't become too sweet...but the caramel flavors really mellow around...the hops come in a just the right time and stick around for just a little bit at the end...there's not an abundance of hops (which is okay...sometimes)...this just has the right amount of earthy flavored hops

M - Medium bodied...smooth and just the right amount of carbonation...could have a little more bitterness

D - This is a never-before-seen style to me coming from the Tavern...I guess they had it once before...but I wish they would make this a regular seasonal offering and I wish I would have had my growler with me...I like my IPAs with a little more hops...but a good IPA that leans more towards the sweeter side

What was this I saw before me? An IPA? Here? Well, this just had to be my lucky day... In fact, so I was told, I was fortunate enough to grab the first pint of this brew...

Solid presentation off the bat... Thick, pillowy head with a hazed golden colour. The aromas were above average with esthers of hops and citrusy notes. The flavor, while initially pretty bitter, mellowed out a bit as I got through the pint. The finish was a tad abrupt, but not poor by any means. I am certainly glad to see Bob Sica, the brewer at Golden Avalanche, get into something like this. I think the more they venture off of the beaten path, the more success they will find...

Prosit!
