A - Served with a dark brown body that had a few ruby highlights...there was no head present from the tap to my coaster...the beer looked rather flat...no full rings of lacing left, just a few patches here and there

S - The nose is overly sweet, like a soda (which I actually thought I got!)...Christmas time spices back up the sweetness (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove)

T - Again the combined flavors are of spice and sweetness...there is an initial sweetness that provides some caramel flavoring...after the sweetness wears off there is an abundance of spices...they fit with the time of year the beer is released...it's like Christmas in a glass with a lot of ginger and nutmeg...cinnamon and clove are lingering in the background adding to the spice profile...the beer finishes sweet and spicy

M - Medium bodied...flat, but in a smooth way...sweet and spicy finish

O - Well, this wasn't my cup o' beer...I found this Festivus Fine Ale to be appropriate for the season, but it fell short on my likability scale...overly sweet with some weird spice profiles

Served on-tap at the Kutztown Tavern. A Belgian ale brewed with candi sugars, coriander and ginger.

A: The ale arrives sans head (par for the course as I soon discovered), looking rather flat. The ale is mahogany, brown with ruddy highlights.

S: The nose is laiden with ginger, a sweet aroma that overpowers the rest of the ale. Caramel malts and candi sugars add further depth to a very sweet nose.

T: Spicy, the ale is fitting for the Christmas season. Dark, the caramel maltiness supports plenty of spices. Dark candi sugars add sweetness. Coriander is sparingly used, a little pepper before the main event. Ginger is strong, overpowering even. It takes hold immediately and owns the ale. The low carbonation gives the spices the opportunity to linger longer than they shoud, leading to more ginger overload.

M: The mouthfeel is warming, aided by all of the spices. Ginger, not my first choice for a beer, adds a distinctive flavor the ale, crowding most everything else out.

D: The ale packs a wallop, hitting stronger than a 6.6% beer should. Interesting, festive no doubt.
