The beer is served in a pint glass and exhibits a clear mahogany color. There is a small off white surface layer of head on arrival. Aroma is mild and clean with some toffee and faint grassy hop presence. First sip is average bodied and average carbonation. That is where the averageness ends. The flavor is toffee and caramel sweetness from start to finish and is rather overwhelming by the end of the beer. Perhaps even some butterscotch is in there.
The sweetness actually makes it difficult to finish the pint. I find the beer to be rather one dimensional and much sweeter than expected. Not the best beer I have had recently. The tavern ale was much more enjoyable.

A - Served with a clear copper body and a two finger, bubbly, white head...the head fell to a spotty cap and a full ring...rings of lacing were left behind

S - The nose showed off a lot of malt...it was a little on the sweet side with caramel and toffee notes...some dark fruit notes lingering in the background

T - Very malt forward and malt dominate...sweet malt at the front with notes of caramel...the sweetness takes a break in the middle and just lets some toasted malt notes come through...dark fruit flavors and toffee notes finish the beer making it sweet again

M - Medium bodied...smooth, not a lot of carbonation...sweet finish, but not cloying

O - I was still able to find this on tap this winter (2011)...an enjoyable Bock with a considerable amount of sweetness without ever becoming cloying

A clear, dark copper body lies beneath a short head of creamy ivory foam that holds well and leaves thin, creamy rings of lace about the glass. The nose is clean with a delicate note of malt. It's full and creamy in the mouth with a very fine carbonation that gently caresses the palate. In the flavor, its toasty and lightly caramelish malt is well-balanced by its firm bitterness, some floral and spicy hops, and a subtle touch of alcohol. It finishes dry with some lingering malt and spice. Quite enjoyable and well worth trying.

Another respectable brew from the Golden Avalanche Brewing Company. This bier is slightly lighter in sweetness / meatiness than I would have expected. This brew has some notes of earthy malt and it comes out in the aroma as well as the flavor. It is by no means a pushy or over-bearing winter brew...Not a bad thing. Well worth trying. Prost!
