Served on tap at the brew-pub. Poured dark chocolate colored with a creamy, 1-finger head that lasted.

Smell is of toasted caramel and chocolate malts. Not much of the coffee aroma one would assume a coffe stout would have.

Taste is malt-forward with a nice light smokiness keeping the sweetness in check. Chocolate, mocha, and caramel malts are the dominant flavors. Sweet cherry as an aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is creamy, smooth, but a touch watery on the finish. The overal feel is like 1% milk.

Drinkability is high, as this is a tasty, if lighter, stout. No overbearing flavors, but just enough to keep you drinking.

64 oz growler into a pint glass.

Pours a black, with a bit of ruby color coming out along the bottom, and a thin covering of soapy mocha colored head. There isn't much retention here at all, with it quickly going pretty flat looking and staying that way during the duration of the glass. Dark roast coffee is very strong in the aroma, sitting on top of additional roasted malt character, sweet chocolate notes, and even a little bit of green smelling citric tones.

Coffee and dark roast are quite assertive in the taste, being balanced by a sweet flush of chocolate malts. A tingle of spicy hops gives this a touch of pizzazz, while that sharp espresso totally dries the back of this out. The mouthfeel is medium bodied overall, but t has a lighter and bubbly feel to it in spots that makes me fear at first that this has maybe lost some carbonation. After reading the previous reviewers take on this however, it seems that this just might be a bit thin bodied in general.

There wasn't a whole lot to look and feel here but this at least brought lots of yummy coffee flavor that got this to a passable level. I'd really like to see some more presence to that body though.

Stopped in at my favorite brew pub for a couple beers and lunch. I noticed a few new beers on the board (along with a Cohen Porter) and just had to try it.

On tap into a pint glass

A - Rich dark color with off white, almost tan foamy head. About 1.5 fingers off the pour and decent lacing to the end

S - Roasted coffee aroma, I did not pick up much besides the coffee

T - A nice blend of chocolate and malt, with the roasted coffee flavor not coming through until it hits the back of the throat.

M - I thought this was rather light for a stout, not watery, but I was looking for a little more body.

D - The lighter body and enjoyable flavor make this one very drinkable. I really enjoyed this beer, and other than the light body, overall a very nice beer on a winters afternoon.
