Nuclear Free Anzus IPA from Croucher Brewing Company - Day 7 of The Craft Beer Advent Calendar - This poured a nice copper color with a thin white head that stuck around. There were quite a few pillars of carbonations through the pour. The nose had a hoppy citrusness permeating through out. I also detected caramel undertones in the end. The same flavours come through in the taste with the citrus flavour giving way to a maltiness stronger than the nose stated. This gave way to a subtle bitterness in the mouth. A nice ale that isn't super bitter but has everything you may want in an IPA.

330ml bottle, day 7 of the 2014 Craft Beer Advent calendar. Nice little backstory about this one's name on the label.

This beer pours a clear, bright pale copper amber hue, with a teeming tower of puffy, rocky, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves some tiered stripes of sudsy lace around the glass as it lazily recedes.

It smells of semi-sweet bready caramel malt, sugary orange, grapefruit, kiwi, and passionfruit, a small flintiness, and further leafy, floral, and somewhat perfumed hops. The taste is more of the same - grainy and lightly doughy caramel malt, a mixed bag of pan-Pacific hop fruitiness (the usual west coast American suspects, with some rather forward tropical notes growing as it warms), and a touch of bridled cold, steely alcohol.

The carbonation is fairly unobtrusive in its mildly doled-out frothiness, the body on the light side of medium weight, and generally smooth, the sweet rather than bitter tendencies of the hops really paying off here. It finishes off-dry, but not by as much as I might have wagered - the sugary fruitiness starting to seriously wane, with the ascendance of a heartily complex bitterness.

A pretty tasty and enjoyable proper IPA, the hops sourced from the titular geographical areas, and an elevated ABV that is craftily integrated. Who said that this grown-up Advent calendar can't handle its IPAs? Right, too many party poopers, that's who - I'm just glad to be able to drink this among all the maltier options continuing to trickle onto my radar.

Day 7 of the BeerAdvent Calendar.

Poured a clear Amber with a thick head.

Nose is very citrusy with grapefruit premominant.

Taste is also very citrusy with grapefruit. Clean and crisp.

Not an overpowering beer - more subtle. I appreciated the subtle character.

I had a 500ml bottle at 7% poured into pint glass 4/3/14 from notes

A slight haze in a golden yellow body, lots of bubbles but only a finger of foam that leaves no lace

S pineapple, guava, passion fruit, some pine, a little cereal and caramel, has a nice tropical blast going for it, solid stuff

T more passion fruit then the nose, a little over ripes mango, more pine with just a hint of lemon and booze

M bitter, a little gritty, heavy pine and rind on the finish, medium bodied, the bubbles fluff it out and then it flattens out

O nice version of a kiwi IPA, not over the top but not a whole lot keeping the hops in check but that suits me fine

for my first beer in NZ I'm pretty happy, when I saw one from Croucher I can't get in Alberta I jumped, you know it's going to be much fresher on this side of the Pacific. Twice the price of some of their other stuff on the same shelf at 10$ but I'll grab this again.
Had this one on tap too and it was great, didn't bother changing anything in the review but tap might have had a slight edge.

Brewed for GABS Festival in Melbourne, May 2013. Tried there on tap.

Pours a golden colour, large bubbly head, snowy, but settles out to a thin rim of lace before too long.

Smells a little sweet. Malty, with caramel, touch of vanilla, plus plenty of aroma hop - banana, apple and passionfruit. Good new world aroma; bit sweet as well, but nice.

Taste starts off fairly light grainy, with a touch of pearl barley leading into a light caramel malt note. New world hop flavour gives a touch of passionfruit before finish is all resin and dank. Lingers quite a bit and could use some brightening up from some more flavour hops.

Body is a little thin and unimpressive, unfortunately.

Not a bad IPA, but it's a little bit light on hop flavour, and in all honesty I'm starting to tire of so many similar sort of outputs from Croucher. In the Pale and the Pils they've created two mind-blowing, world-class beers, but all their one-offs seem to be rehashes of the same formula, so when I go in with this expectation and get a to-style IPA like this, I'm disappointed, yeah.
