A groovy little gourmet deli/bar/restaurant just on the outskirts of downtown Decatur.
This is not the biggest beer menu in the area (a bottle list in the mid-20's and only 4 on tap) but what it lacks in size it makes up for in selection with a very eclectic and well thought out list.
Service is friendly and beer knowledgeable. Food is quite good too. They make some very good sandwiches and offer great selections for their artisinal cheese plate.
Beer prices are reasonable. The sandwich prices seem high until you taste them. Very fresh ingredients and good quality meat. I have never felt ripped off!
Definitely worth of a visit and holds its own even in Decatur.

The 5th Earl is a cool sandwich shop / mini gourmet market located off College Ave. in Decatur. It, of course, is not the premier beer destination in Decatur, however if your are up for a gourmet sandwich and want a good quality beer to go with it, this is the place to go. They have four beers on tap that rotate frequently. All of the tap beers were high quality craft beers. When I went the taps were: Allagash Black, Loose Cannon, Red Seal, and a beer from Highland brewery. The taps are located at a small cozy bar situated off to the side of the dining / lounging area. They also have about twenty-five beers available in bottle. Many of the bottled beers are Belgian and German with many more from American microbreweries. My girlfriend and I had two bottled beers from Lefthand Brewery during our visit. The place is very comforting with its dark wood / brick / and leather sofa feel. The place is obviously quality in both their food and beer selection. I am going to put it into my dining rotation as my preferred soup /sandwich stop.

Finally visited the 5th Earl last weekend after meaning to go forever.
I definitely enjoyed myself. My gf and I went to dinner on a whim (actually I talked her into dinner and I really wanted the Allagash Hugh Mallone) and definitely enjoyed it.
The place is pretty intimate, but I could definitely see myself coming back. The bar is nice too, but I wish it were bigger. There are also only 4 taps, but they were all cool stuff when I went. The menu is mostly sandwiches and other things, but we really enjoyed what we had. Beer was served in proper glassware, and the staff were all nice.
Apparently they also host beer dinners, and I think there's an Allagash one coming up in September. GF definitely wants to hit that up, and I do as well. I'll certainly be returning. A worthy establishment in the beer center that is downtown Decatur.

Very deli-like place in Decatur near Agnes Scott College. Very small market up front, then a deli case full of prepared stuff and a salad and sandwich board. Very goo sandwiches with excellent ingredients nicely combined into delicious combinations. A number of tables and a small bar in back with 4 taps and a couple of dozen bottles or so. Decent selection of bottles and all 4 taps were quality- St. Bernardus abt. 12, Allagash White, Left Hand Chainsaw, and Left Hand Sawblade when I was there. The beer is well kept, and served correctly. No real service to speak of in that it is counter service and then take your beer to a table. Quasi-upscale, but lacks a definite identity at this point. They apparently have some reasonable beer dinners, and the food looks good at them, but I've usually tried all the beers they serve and there isn't enough information about the dinners (beer side) on the website. Are there special guests or someone from the breweries? I have no idea. Intersting place, and I'll be interested to see how it evolves. Right now it is a quick place to grab a beer and a sandwich when you don't want to go to the Brick Store- which for me is almost never. On the other hand, I wouldn't hesitate to stop by here for a sandwich to go for a picnic or something.

The 5th Earl is an interesting deli/market/bar in Decatur. Has a decent selection of sandwiches, and things like cheeses and soups for sale. The space is slightly classy, like a nice coffee shop. Mostly brick walls, with big windows in front that let in a lot of light, but then it gets quite dark in the back by the small bar.
On tap at the tiny bar were four beers, including Hazed and Infused. A few bottles in the fridges up front too, mostly stuff from Tommyknocker and Sweetwater.
You order at the counter. Food was pretty good. Simple but well made sandwiches. Slightly pricey, but the ingredients are top notch. Not a bad option for a quick or leisurely lunch in Decatur.

They have a small quaint bar in the back that only has 4 taps but it's always something interesting. Currently it's DFH Chateau Jiahu, DFH Punkin Ale, Highland Oatmeal Porter and Hebrew Coney Island Lager. They also have as many as 33 bottles, including Belgians, Locals and 22oz bombers.
Once a month they have a beer or wine dinner. (Though the wine is actually a more recent addition) They pair with quality breweries and try to get someone from there to come join and possibly teach a bit about their product.
The food is high quality but it's $8+ for a BBQ sandwich. It's good and quite large but "a bit pricey"
