Hops Grill & Brewery

An odd location, tucked away at the end of a side street off of Midlothian Boulevard. It was a stand alone building with the entry on the side nearest the road. A wide vestibule opened onto the laminated rectangular wood bar at a left-oblique. Booths ringed the bar area with vintage advertising above the booths. The CU-clad brewhouse and four FVs were visible behind glass at the far end of the bar. Lavs to a hard right inside the door with the kitchen just beyond the entry to the lavs and running back to the restaurant area.

Four stds. - Lightning Rod Gold; Thoroughbred Red; Alligator Ale; Clearwater Light and two seasonals, Big Skeeter Pale Ale and Zen Bock.

Their brewer was enthusiastic and the Chauffeur had a good time.

Score one for the chains!

Stopeed by during Happy Hour from 4-7. Beers were $1.75 for a 12oz draft which is pretty much inbeatable. Nothing excited here as far as selection goes. They had seven house beer on draft which were a porter, dry hop pale ale, golden ale, red ale, golden lager, light lager and a honey bock. I chose the porter and it was okay except the beer was cold and the glass was frozen so the taste was pretty muted and numb. That is to be expected from a large "microbrewery" like this place.

My visit was fine. Nothing outstanding. I pulled over to check some emails before heading down the road and to grab a pint and I was happy with the visit.
