Served on tap at the pub, 12 oz pour in a tulip. Dark mahogany when held to the light, completely opaque. A finger of mocha head floats atop. Roasty malts , coffee, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, peanut butter aroma. Flavors of chocolate, espresso, cream, peanut butter powder, char, coffee grounds. Smooth, well balanced between bitter/roasted and sweet.

This beer has strong flavors, but blended well into one drink. The peanut butter is definitely noticeable but notes of dark chocolate and coffee are also present. The appearance is dark with slight foam. The beer is well balanced and the aroma of freshly roasted peanut butter. It is good enough to drink alone, but might be overpowering with a flavorful meal. Would recommend!

Peanut Butter CEO Stout
22oz., waxed bottle with a smudged date (-/23/2015) from Copper Vine, poured into a Duvel tulip.

A- A normal pour creates a foamy, dense, 1-1/2 finger of light brown head. The body is pretty well black. The head settles in to 1/2 finger and sustains at that level throughout while leaving really good lacing on the glass. A couple of wax particles dropped in with both the first and second pours.

S- While billed as a peanut butter version, there's still a lot of coffee up front that I recognize from the base beer. The peanut butter is subtle, yet noticeable. With some warmth, the medium roast coffee aromas grow. There's a little dark chocolate at play here too.

T- It's really hitting the spot on a somewhat lazy, Sunday afternoon. It's like an afternoon cup of coffee. Dark chocolate notes pair nicely, while the peanut butter takes a back seat. To tell the truth, if the label didn't reference a peanut butter addition, I probably wouldn't think it was there. Maybe I can attribute some of the roasted qualities? I dunno.

M- Quite dry in the finish while keeping a creamy feel throughout. Medium body with moderate-light carbonation.

O- I'm a sucker for flavored beers, and I know Right Brain enjoys experimentation. I generally prefer subtle hints of adjunct additions, but I feel this beer would benefit from a doubling of the peanut butter. I just kept closing my eyes and hoping for a breakthrough of flavor. A great beer for sure (I love the regular CEO), just don't expect to get your peanut butter fix with this one (coming from a guy who enjoys all things peanut butter). Versions from The B.O.B. and Mitten come to mind.

Short Review. Did a tasting with three variants of CEO stout and this one came in third. It was nice, but i found the peanut butter to be a little too light. I liked it, but with more peanut butter this would be a very nice beer. It basically tasted just like CEO stout, but with a slight peanut aspect.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 11/23/2015. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger fairly dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, peanut butter, caramel, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and coffee/peanut butter notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, peanut butter, caramel, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Moderate amount of herbal/roasted coffee bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, peanut butter, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and coffee/peanut butter flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice peanut butter coffee stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted/bready malt and coffee/peanut butter flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. The peanut butter flavors weren’t too big, but still had really nice overall balance with the base beer flavor. A very enjoyable offering.
