Served on-tap at Traverse City's Right Brain Brewing.
A: The barleywine is a brown amber color, a worn copper penny. A small head blanketed the ale and quickly disappeared.
S: The nose has sour, vanilla and bourbon all begging for attention. A very lively aroma that isn't too sour but lets you know that brett was here.
T: What a doozy. Sour funk is upfront, earthy and barnyardy. Following it, vanilla and bourbon are in abundant supply. Big malts are just below the flavors, reinforcing the strength of the beer. Caramel is noticeable, a good compliment to the vanilla. The weight of the ale doesn't make itself known.
M: The mouthfeel is complex without being heavy handed. The fleeting sour is a nice set-up for the vanilla and bourbon.
D: A stone soup kind of beer that comes together nicely. I really nieded this beer.

Aged seven months on Madagascar vanilla beans in a Woodford Reserve Bourbon barrel. Allowed to naturally sour.
A-Hazy, deep copper with a won't go away thin white head that left webby lace.
S-Like sticking your head in an emptied out bourbon barrel and inhaling deeply! Lots of dry oak with a bit of sour cherry zing.
T-Oak dryness with a touch of vanilla sweetness followed by a bourbon punch a bit of sourness and a VERY dry oak finish.
M-Medium body, super dry with a sour cherry pucker in the finish.
D-Whoa! This is some powerful stuff. Oak and cherry astringency makes for one flavourful and dry brew. A wonderful job for their first attempt!

Aged seven months on Madagascar vanilla beans in Woodford Reserve Bourbon barrels. Sour notes come from natural bacteria present in casks.
A- A cloudy brownish amber liquid with a thin but creamy white head that has some good retention.
S- Smells very funky with some very apparent vanilla. Floral and very aromatic. Extremely appealing.
T- The sourness hits up front then the sweetness comes through. Strong but smooth bourbon and oak characteristics come through. The vanilla flavor is fantastic. It gets better and better with the more I sip on it. The sweetness and sourness compliment each other very well. The flavors bring to mind a Founders Curmudgeon and a Jolly Pumpkin La Roja.
M- Tart and smooth with a great carbonation level. A very clean aftertaste.
D- A delicious, complex beer that drinks like a 5% ABV beer, not a 10% one. Absolutely wonderful.
