A nitro pour at the brewpub.
A: The scotch ale is dark, a deep brown-red hybrid that could pass for a porter in many situations. The ale was served on nitro, so a dense coffee-and-cream colored head lingered and laced in strata.
S: The nose is malty, an excess of dark grains. The nitro pour takes a little away from this dimension. The nose is formidable enough to pass as a porter, or possibly even a stout.
T: Deliciously malty, the ale packs a solid wallop. The grains have a mild, peaty smoke flavor that brings out a fullness in the ale. The malt bill is dark, with chocolate and roasted flavors that could easily pass for a porter.
M: The mouthfeel has such a strong fullness that that it could easily pass for a smoked porter. The peat and dark malts are a flavorful combination.
D: If not for the nitro only availability, I'd be sipping on a growler right now. A full ale that really fits in with the excellent darker ales that Elk Creek cranks out.
