Sampled this one from a selection box from the Beer Club of Britain.
The beer poured an amber mahogany colour with a cream head, as with a lot of the real ales in a bottle it displayed good retention and lacing.
The nose was dominated by sweet malts, barley and caramel. These continued through to the taste with a slightly bitter hint in the middle but a lingering sweet taste of roasted caramel. This was more reminiscent of a Scottish 80/~ rather than an English beer.
The mouthfeel of the beer was a bit on the lighter side, but still acceptable. However this may be an advantage if you were drinking this all night, it may not bloat you up so much. Overall a very nice beer, not at all what I was expecting, I'd like to try it on cask.

Brown 500ml bottle, best before End Nov 2008, drank early Oct 2008.
Poured into a Palm tulip glass twice.
Good mid-amber colour, clear and healthy looking. An off-white pillow of foam sat on top, sadly this soon turned into a wispy covering with a collar around the glass.
Caramel hit my nose, then hops and some yeast esters, each getting stronger as the beer warmed in the glass.
Dry bitter taste, mixed fruits somewhere in there too, not as sweet as the smell suggests.
Malty aftertaste, a bit fizzy, but fine otherwise.
Pleasant easy to drink beer, nothing special, but worth having again.

500ml brown bottle, bottle-conditioned. BB date: FEB 06.
A: slightly hazy dark amber hue, with a foamy beer head dissipating slowly and leaving nice but uneven lacing... gentle and constant fizzy body.
S: preserved-peach, slightly buttery, profound fruity note of dried Arabic sweet-dates, mild brown-sugary malty, a drop of honey, against an underlying Fuggle-hop's wild-plant + slightly "stinky" hayish aroma. Overall semi-sweetish fruity on the nose--very nice indeed.
T: mouthful of thinly fruity and juicy lightly-kilned malts upfront; the flavour is much akin to "date juice-drink" (like what my grandma used to give me when I had digestive problem in my childhood); ju...st slightly fruity sweet flavour(like fresh, ripe dark fruits--longan fruit+plums) at the back of the palate with a tinge of refreshingly floral-fragrant aroma of hops. Very mildly fruity aftertaste and just a hint of bitterness left beneath the rather clean finish.
M&D: refreshing mouthfeel buttressed by the mild fizz, but the body is way too light, even a bit flat, compared to the rather juicy-rich aroma. Despite being an easy-drinking beer, I'd say the beer's flavour doesn't live up to the nicely-tuned malty and fruity aroma. I only wish the cask-conditioned version could be "heavier"~~
