Copenhagen 18/1 2023. 50 cl bottle from Netto, Frederikssundsvej, Kbh. NV. Ærø’s usual design with two Lion heads (which looks a bit like angry porcupines) on the label.
Pours clear dark maroon with a red hue and a small off-white head. A bit bubbly. Settles as thin layer of foam struggling to cover the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet malty and toasted odor mingling with a harsh bitter scent. Caramel, toffee and toasted bread. A bit of brown sugar. Linoleum and glue.
Medium strong carbonation. Thin, oily, soft, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a rather strong sweetness followed by a more moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter and a little rough. Lingers for a bit. Finish is rather dry with a sweet touch.
Rough around the edges with a bit of toffee.

Dark amber to brown color. Clear. Decent head with some lasting power. A good blanket of lace but it slides off the glass.
A blend of burnt black patent malt and darker crystal malt. This makes the smell be like burnt toast and molasses.
The flavor is like the aroma, but with a bit of chocolate. Enough hop in the finish to provide balance. Lots of spritz from the carbonation. The body is neutral. The aftertaste has a stronger dose of bitterness from both the burnt malt and the modest hop.

Appearance: dark ruby brown, great clarity, thinnish layer of tan foam, OK head retention
Aroma: chocolate cake, malt, herbal hops, rust, honeydew melon
Flavor: dry malt profile; perky hop flavor like unripe pears; slightly tangy; licorice and coffee roastiness; finishes dry with a long-lingering bitterness
Mouthfeel: medium body, light carbonation, minerally, slight astringency
Other comments: A more complex rendition of an English ESB or dark Bitter.
