This was a special one-off release for a punk rock show held on Saturday, 24 November 2018 at Spring House B.C.'s Hazel Street location. I did not attend, although I am old friends with the seCANd band on the bill - Brom Bones. I uncovered this in the backlog here at Chez Woody & I want to add it to The CANQuest (tm) despite my having cut ties with Spring House.
From the CAN: "Mephiskapheles [-] NYC Satanic Ska Punk[,] brom bones [-] Lancaster, PA Godfathers of Punk[,] olde tigers [-] York, PA Punk Rock Fury".
Having Crack!ed open the vent, I beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug, but it quickly proved that it simply wanted to foam. No problem for me, since I have learned to be patient as I have aged, so I sat back & let it become two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone white head with excellent retention. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). It really resembled meringue atop lemon pie filling on a slice of lemon meringue pie. As a young baker/chef, meringue was tough for me to master, but once I got a handle on it, I was home free. Speaking of home free, once the massive head finally died down, I was able to CANtinue. Nose had a grapefruit-citrusy hoppiness. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was pretty extreme in terms of its grapefruit bitterness. It made me think that it was dry-hopped to the point of saturation & beyond. 8=p Don't misunderstand me - I am all for hops & bitterness in beer, but there are times that it CAN be overdone & this seemed to be one of them. In fact, after each swallow, I was left with a powdery feeling in my mouth. Oof. Ever suck on a hop pellet? I have & this reminded me of doing just that, except in liquid form. NOT recommended! Finish was bitter & extremely dry & while I wished that I might have enjoyed it more, it just felt like I had CANsumed a whole grapefruit, rind, pith, seeds, fruit & all. 8=p YMMV.
