Notes: Kerplunk! Imperial Chocolate Stout is named for the delicious sound made as large amounts of Wilbur chocolate and west coast hops are added directly into the simmering brew kettle. This hefty black Imperial-style stout boasts a rich caramel sweetness lavished by a robust, deep-roasted heartiness you can sink your two front teeth into. The bold flavors found in Kerplunk! are produced using a generous blend of roasted barley, crystal malts and locally produced chocolate. The resulting brew exhibits a deliciously complex and unique profile of subtle mocha coffee and intense chocolate, balanced nicely by the underlying roasted hop bitterness.

I really enjoyed this beer & spring house is one of my favorite breweries. Kerplunk has an extremely chocolatey smell and an equally chocolate taste. It wasn't as heavy or creamy as other stouts but it's not necessarily a bad thing. If you like flavored stouts then definitely give this one a try.

Served from the 22 ounce bottle into a tulip snifter at 38F. No bottle date.

Dark, black stout. Whitish velvety head.

Smells like raw Hershey's chocolate and roasty malts. Very clean and balanced.

If you've ever had Spring House's Big Gruesome Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout, this is the base beer, minus the dried peanut butter. I prefer Kerplunk to Big Gruesome. They really have this recipe dialed in and this is an excellent stout for the price point. Probably the best from PA, and certainly one of my favorite brands when searching out a stout. The flavor profile here is like a semi sweet dark chocolate bar. Really well balanced.

Extremely drinkable and really smooth mouthfeel. Hides the 8% ABV really well. Head retention is really nice and this stout also changes flavor with temperature. The warmer it gets, the more the flavor profile expands.

Definitely my favorite Spring House product thus far.

22 oz

Pours jet black, quarter inch of light tan head retains well.

Smells of rich cocoa, vanilla, and caramel. Retains as a film.

Tastes of biscuit, almond, chocolate, vanilla, and walnut. Dry coffee notes in the finish.

Medium to full body with stinging carbonation.

Very nice velvety stout with a nice aroma. The flavor could stand to be a tad richer. Very enjoyable though and worth trying.

Another bomber snagged from the House of 1,000 beers for $8.50 tax included. Into a mason jar glass.

A - Very nice looking stout thick looking and pitch black with a 1/2 inch of head that takes a minute to clear to a nice lace ring.
S - Smells of chocolate (obviously) with some bakers and cocoa nibs with mild coffee aromas and a bit of hops.
T - Good chocolate notes with nice coffee roasts balancing to a great sweetness level with hops mending pretty well mostly on the sweet rather than bitter side. I love it.
M - Quite creamy and smooth medium body easy to drink.

Overall I kind of like this one a tad bit more than the Space Bean because the body is more thick and rounded possibly since it's an imperial stout. May get it again if its still around.

Bomber poured into a snifter.

3.0 A: Black color. Not quite a finger of fizzy light brown head formed and fell just as quickly. No lacing left.

4.5 S: This smells a lot like ST Crème Brulee, which means it smells awesome. Loads of milk and semi-sweet chocolate. Supple roasted barley and breakfast blend coffee. Hints of caramel and a touch of molasses. The chocolate is simply wonderful in this.

3.75 T: Taste like it smells for the most part, just not as potent. Chocolate forward with a moderate sweetness. Less coffee than the nose, but still some. Caramel, roasted barley, and some toastiness. It tastes good, but could use some more maltiness.

3.25 M: Lighter medium to medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Just a small touch of creaminess. This would greatly benefit from a thicker body (and more maltiness in the taste would help as well).

3.75 D: I like it and would drink again, but this could have been something great if there was just a bit more malt in there.

A - Black pour (big surprise ... it's a stout). Thin, dark ring of toffee colored lacing, no carbonation.

S - Roasted chocolate, cocoa, and mocha.

T - Roasted chocolate, cocoa, some char, and mocha with a bitter roasted chocolate ending.

M - Thin medium body, slick.

O - This is a solid stout, just wish it had a thicker body. The ABV is extremely well hidden.
