This one is hard to describe by looking at the label. It reads "Irish Porter Style", not a Beer Advocate category. Claimed, there are "notes of fruity citrus, sweet & warming spices". Let's see what all this means. But first, the picture on the label is among the best. So now, the pint can has fully been emptied into a clear Imperial pint glass. The brew is a very dark brown with a reasonable and sustained beige head. It smells spicy, maybe some cloves and nutmeg, but nothing overpowering. There's some decent glass lacing going on where the head has receded. The taste is as vague as the description on the label. There's citrus fruit, which makes it a little acidic and more predominantly, spices. None of the spices are pronounced specifically, but it's a good bet there's a mild dose of clove, with some nutmeg and maybe allspice. It may fail a good reviewer of beer to detect specific spices and that should be forgiven. So, this is a citrusy and spicy brew, with neither overdone. The taste isn't something you'd want to have for a session. The citrus-spice connection just doesn't work that well. The finish is dry and doesn't linger. The mouthfeel is light and thin, especially for a porter. Nice try at something different here, but it turns out to be unremarkable.
