It's an extra extra foamy pour from a pint can into a clear glass liter mug. Well, lemon meringue is supposed to be fluffy. After a momentary pause, the entire sixteen fluid ounces make it into the vessel. The foam is stark white and recedes quickly and unevenly, leaving no glass lacing. The brew is orange-amber, dull but not too dark. Muddled lemon hits the air, which is probably appropriate for a lemon meringue NEIPA, rather than a lemon fruited kettle sour. The lactose and vanilla certainly contribute to the softening of the lemon inclusion. But, it's not easy to make this work. True IPAs, even hazy ones, aren't the best beers for additional outside flavors. There's a softened lemon character here, but there's too much that just isn't right. The lactose blunts both the IPA taste and the lemon. To its credit, it doesn't add any unacceptable sweetness, nor stickiness. The vanilla only adds a subtle taste impact. There are little obvious IPA characteristics here. What little there are tend to distract rather than augment the overall. The hops and starches of the IPA style seem out of kilter with the fruit and milk sugar. A little lemon pucker after the finish is its best attribute. No doubt, it could be worse. Instead it's an outside the box effort than falls just a little short of working.

A: The beer is hazy pale yellow in color. It poured with a short white head that quickly settled down, leaving a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Sour flavors of lemon juice are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and is a bit sour with flavors resembling lemon meringue.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and somewhat tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer tastes just like a sour version of a lemon meringue. It is easy to drink.
