Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of bready malts. Taste is bready malts with light hops. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.

Poured into a narrow imperial pint glass: color straw gold, hazed, head is off white with fine to small bubbles, head presents over 2 inches deep and lingers with solid top.
Smell is neutral barley malt, light adjunct with likely corn, maybe some caramel and toast aromas, grassy and herbal hops.
Taste is similar with neutral barley malt, corn sweetness, toast, caramel, grass, floral, herbal hops.
Mouthfeel is low/moderate carbonation, moderate sweetness, lower bitterness.
Overall a premium beer in named style but executed like a malt golden ale/light amber with low aroma/flavor hops; bittering comes with warmth.

Taster at Lancaster brewpub. Clear golden, light head fades. Light grainy aroma, bread. Taste is mildly sweet, malty with a light, like angering bitterness

Spring House Brewing Co. "Sprenger Famous Red Rose"
16 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating. Sampled on 07/12/22
$4.29 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: Sprenger Brewing Co. was started in 1895 in Lancaster, PA and ran until 1920. It reopened in 1933 following the repeal of prohibition but only lasted until 1951. The Sping House version of their "Famous Red Rose" beer is a hazy amber in color beneath a short head of white foam. In the nose it's malty and earthy. The flavor follows with some additional floral character, some apple-like fruitiness, and grassy, spicy, and herbal hops. It's a slight bit vegetal as well which is odd as I'm quite sure that's not supposed to be there. The malt is bready and I'm pretty sure there's some wheat there. It's got a moderate to median bitterness and it's sweetish and malty but not to a fault as the grassy, spicy, and herbal hops help to dry it in the end as the malt erodes. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp-then-smooth with a moderate carbonation. I wonder if they've worked this up from an existing recipe. I also wonder if this is an old can as they date at least some of their beers (that might have to do with the use of multiple mobile canning companies).
