Draft offering at Pizza Boy served in a standard pint glass. The brew appears black in color with a dark khaki head that fades to a thin film atop. A full wall of patchy lace sticks to the glass.

The aroma is full on roasted coffee and peanuts. The already roasty base beer is driven up a few notches from the earthen roast of the coffee addition. At first, this almost smells like a double peanut butter version of Big G, but as it warms up the coffee dominates. Interesting how the coffee addition seemingly ramps up the perceived scent of the nut inclusion.

The flavor is almost saline with a lot of roasted peanuts and coffee. It is earthen, roasty and plenty of bakers chocolate is included. The earthen coffee lingers long in the aftertaste with a raw roasted bitterness. Just like the nose, the coffee addition almost makes the peanut aspect stand out more but as it warms up, the coffee overtakes the brew.

This is a medium to lighter bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. Thin like most of the other Spring House dark ales but easy drinking and surpisingly more peanut aspect than the nornal Big G has (perhaps a recipe change or just fresher?) Regardless this was real good and id like to drink it again.

Obtained a growler of this from the Spring House Taproom. This is their Big Gruesome over Coffee, specifically Square One Coffee which is a local Lancaster, PA roaster.

Growler to Snifter, pours a dark brown/black with a khaki head. Right away you can smell the chocolate and coffee. On taste the peanut butter is there, but faint. More of it starts to come through as the beer warms, but still not as much as I was hoping for. The chocolate, coffee, and malts continue to come through in the taste. Good creamy body on the mouthfeel.

Overall this was a really good beer and I'd look to get more of it if they have it on-tap again.

Amazing brew. ET phone home. Like recess pieces in a bottle. Mouthfeel is a bit much as in too much carb, however this is amazing taste and smell overcomes this mouthfeel. Again for the cheap seats; looks like a stout, too bubbly for a stout, but smell is magical, taste is good. What more do you want? Looking for more. Cheers
