South Street Brewery "May Day Mild"
On tap at the brewery on 19 June 2015
From the menu: "Mild Ale. Moderate body, caramel iced malt flavor and aroma. Amber color. Maris Otter pale, dark crystal, biscuit, terrified wheat, chocolate, and mild ale malts. US and East Kent Golding hops. Scottish ale yeast. 4.5% alc/vol. 15 IBUs. $4.00 16 oz."
Notes: clear russet brown body beneath a short head of tan. Average head retention and lacing. Toasty and grainy in the nose, the flavor adds medium to medium-dark caramel, underlying milk chocolate, the rich malt character of Maris Otter, floral and gently spicy hops, and a mild fruitiness from the yeast. It's medium to medium-light in body with a fine, delicately bristling carbonation. At the upper limits for a mild at 4.5% abv and quite malty for the style, but not particularly heavy-handed. Very nicely balanced. This was the unanimous favorite at my table.
