A full-bodied Czech lager characterized by hop bitterness, golden colour, and rich foam.
Bakalar Premium Lager is still brewed in the traditional fashion using the double decoction method and open bar fermentation before being stored 40-60 days in horizontal tanks. We use Czech malts, Saaz hops and water from deep wells, and have the right label our products protected by the geographical indication Ceske Pivo.

500ml bottle stamped 51692 into a large pokal.
L: Pours clear golden caramel color with a rocky white head, steady lush carbo, medium lacing broken full circumference, head recedes to thick smooth froth with back of glass banding, very good carbo retention.
S: Saaz hops, a metallic note, light pastry dough, gently earthy.
T: Saaz hops, clean lightly sweet malts, a light vinous note, distant pastry dough, very gentle bitterness that has a light & soft linger.
F: Brisk, clean, medium to med-light bodied mouthfeel with a clean center and a medium length slightly dry finish.
O: A lovely tasting beer that is slightly hop forward. Excellent balance, gorgeous eye appeal and pour, splendid aroma. There is a note of light pastry dough in the finish. I find that this beer has been severely underrated. Perhaps some didn't have fresh beer or they used incorrect glassware. I believe it is excellent in its style.

Appearance: Pours a completely clear, deep golden, slightly orange color with a moderate white head. SRM of 10. (4.00)
Aroma: Mild aromas of smooth bread, honey, and pale malts. (3.50)
Flavor: Strong flavors of rich bread, pale malts, yeast, and honey. Smooth and mildly sweet. (3.75)
Feel: Medium to heavier bodied, average carbonation. Smooth, slightly thick. (3.75)
Overall: Paid a hefty penyny for this authentic Czech Pale Lager. Surprisingly pours an amber color. Aromas are mild. It's been handled well because its not skunked and in green galssware. Picks it up on the flavor with smooth bread malts, yeast, slight amber notes and honey flavors. This has only a 76 Okay Rating on BeerAdvocate. However, I think drinks quite nicely. Sort of reminds me of an Amber Lager like Yeunglings. It's enjoyable and I'm honored to have tried it. (Rating: 3.71)

Saturated orange, deep sunset tone, ample foam that leaves behind chunky lacing. Bright clarity, no visible carb trails after a steady pour, CO2 is softer as a result.
Aroma is toasty like popcorn kernels. A hint of breadiness, lightly skunky at first in the green bottle, which dissipates quickly.
Smooth and velvety, very soft and easy drinking. Well water, grassy noble Saaz hops, rustic crusty bread.
Overall it’s pretty good, the double decoction and open fermentation add a distinct round smoothness to it. Slightly toastier than Pražačka, a little less balance here too.

Clear golden colour with a moderate white head. Great lacing.
Overly sweet and almost corny. Grain. No real aroma.
Light malt and a bit of sweetness. Macro style. Dull corny flavour.
Medium body with moderately high carbonation.
A decent but entirely unexceptional lager. Too much corn type "dried out" flavour.

Sampled back on 10/5/13. Chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler. Poured into a "V" shaped pilsner glass.
Pours a orange/amber in color with just slightly above average carbonation. When first opened it had a slight 'skunky' smell as seems to be the NORM with all brews that come in green bottles! Really no head at all to speak of but left some spotty lacing when sipped. Besides the slight 'skunky' smell and hoppy grains. Very average smell. Luckily the taste was better than the smell but was on the watered-down side with a slight bitter finish.
